Default One handed texting?

I am a t-mobil customer and would love to get a G1. The only negative that I can see is that you can not text one handed from the touch screen. I would love to be able to text from the phone dial screen using intutive text. This would make one handed texting possible like on my Krazer. I love this feature. Having to open the keyboard is a complete bummer. Even an onscreen keyboard wouldn't be as good in my opinion for texting.

I would like this feature too. Is it possible for a future application to create an onscreen keyboard? Or is there something preventing this?

Check out a beta program called ShapeWriter http://www.shapewriter.com/ I have it loaded on my G1 and it has great possibilities ... it has a great onscreen keyboard and you quickly draw words by drawing a line from letter to letter and then lift your finger and the word appears and a list of other suggested words like T9 predictive texting .. Currently the App can be used for SMS & Email and the keyboard appears with keyboard closed or open .... with a little practice this is fast ... you dont have to hit spaces between words as this is done automatically
Beta download is at http://www.shapewriter.com/andbeta.html
You will need AppsInstaller for this which you can install from the AppsMarketPlace.
