RazzMaTazz - do you mind going through some specific details as to how you sync using hotmail? I have not been able to sync, trying many options since going from PalmOS to Android a week ago. I have managed to us MPE to sync my calendar but not contacts.
I have an unanswered post on the MPE forum that perhaps someone here can help with?
I use Outlook 2007. However when getting my new Android Samsung Infuse phone I decided to use Google Contacts - big mistake.
My initial sync between my phone and MyPhone Explorer was when I was using Google Contacts.
I now want to switch to syncing between Outlook and my phone using MPE, and stopping to use Google Contacts completely.
However when I do the sync MPE thinks that I have no contacts in Outlook and wants me to add them all, or at least many of them.
My phone contacts are good.
What is the best way for me to sync between Outlook without creating duplicates in Outlook?
Possibly even being able to delete all of my contacts in MPE might help but I cannot find how to do that. I land up with a delete X next to the contact but cannot progress further in the deletion.

I saw your post on the MPE forum but it's only reading it here I twigged what you could do. I use Outlook 2010 and have several contacts 'sub folders' I use. With MPE I can then choose which ones to sync with the phone. In my case I do it this way because my Outlook is the master copy for contacts and calendar for both me and my wife and she doesn't want all of my contacts on her phone, hence the separation.
Anyway, I was thinking that you could create a contacts sub-folder to move (not copy) all of your existing Outlook contacts to then sync with your phone. You would then have two folders to check over to ensure no duplicates etc, then move the 'master' copies to the main contacts folder and sync again as normal. Just to add, this is so the dump from the phone goes to the main Contacts folder and thus you don't get duplicates - you get two separate contacts folders with, in theory, the same information in both.
After uploading the phone I would delete all the phone contacts and, in MPE, do a 'download entire'. That would zero out the MPE database.
MPE is saying that your Outlook contacts are all different from your Google contacts, I assume, because it just checks dates etc for changes. Also, Google and Outlook store contacts in a completely different way which would make it very difficult to check each field for changes.
Hope that helps.

Reason: In bold - added info.
Some clarification please - when you say "After uploading the phone I would delete all the phone contacts and, in MPE, do a 'download entire'. That would zero out the MPE database.",
will this delete only the MPE and have no affect at all on Outlook?
Is that the only way to delete the entries from MPE?

As far as I know. There could be some hidden way to do it but the problem is that MPE just reflects what is on the phone. So, with contacts still on the phone, if you delete one in MPE it "seems" as though you then have to sync so that that entry is removed (as you are really marking it for deletion from the phone). Hence the 'delete the entire contacts database on the phone' then 'download entire'. The latter downloads the now empty phone contacts database and thus is itself emptied.
As long as you keep a "good" copy of your Outlook contacts in a seperate sub-folder that's not synced then you can play around with it until you are satisfied things work.
I have known this sw since long and now got a chance to use on my LG Optimus P500. Great app. I just have one problem. When I use 'SMS Chat', my incoming messages are not automatically loaded.. I need to check them on phone and should reply on PC. My chat window contains messages only from me.
Also, normal conversation list does not update automatically when a message is received. I have to press the download messages button. Is this a bug of designed like this?
Also is there a way i can get it to select a specific folder like the Music folder on my pc so when i add new music to that folder it will automatically get sent to my phone when i plug it in for its next sync?
Love this program btw, had been using it on my SE W800i and it was amazing then, glad to see its still as good as ever and working for android. Loving the screenshot feature since im unrooted.

Nin123: can BT use a different COM port so you can check this out? Just guessing as I have never used BT to sync - with my DHD I use wifi, though I have used the data cable. Can you try wifi?

Hi Dave,
Many Thanks for replying!
Subsequent to posting my above message, I used COM port 19 (after reinstalling my phone as a bluetooth device on my laptop) - with the same results. Must say it was rather disheartening!
I could try with wifi but I read somewhere that the laptop & phone must be connect to the same wifi network - and that is a few additional steps& precious minutes wasted for me if I try to do that (I might as well use USB). BT worked flawlessly with my previous Nokia 6212, so I just was wondering how I do the same with my Samsung i9000. I believe it has something to do with a serial port that doesn't get added when I add my phone as a bluetooth device (but automatically happened with my Nokia).

It was just a thought on the BT thing as I never use BT for syncing. Not sure what you're saying about wifi though, probably something that's pertinent to your own network. The way I have my network/router set is a) my main pc is hard-wired to my router (something has/should be) b) phone(s) connect via wifi to the same router and c) I set a static ip based on mac address for both phones and pcs (visitors still get an ip via dhcp). No need to do it exactly this way but that method suits what I do.
Anyhow, the current version of MPE allows you to start the Android client when you're connected to a particular wireless network so mine starts when I come into range of my home net. Then I don't even need the phone near the computer to synchronise things. Dunno if you could set your's like this.
You are right, wifi is an option, but I don't prefer it for two reasons - one, I don't have access to it everywhere. My laptop, being company-provided, is configured and setup to automatically connect with the corporate (secure) wifi when in office. Connecting to an unsecured (guest) wifi, would be a little more time consuming, as it'd require logging in with my corporate credentials - both in the laptop, and also in the mobile. Moreover, I have had the experience of having to log in to the office guest wifi on my mobile a couple of times (I am guessing the login session times out after a while if not used). So doing this everyday would be a little cumbersome - the 2nd reason I prefer BT. I would think a USB would be quicker (but then again, one would always need to have the cord around)!

Ouch! Corporate devices can be a pain sometimes but they do belong to the company I suppose, just frustrating ...

That should be too much of an issue as most cords are micro-USB these days. My Desire HD charger comes with one but if I connect to my PC via USB I use a Nokia cable I have. But Fleabay is full of short cables you could carry about with your laptop.

I have a Draytek 2820n and in the LAN section you can 'Bind IP to MAC'. As I use mac address filtering to allow wireless connections (or not!) onto my wifi (***) I just specify an ip address to be assigned to that mac address.

*** for those that think that's not enough security for their wifi connection, believe me, where I live it is! In a town or city I would use this and some other form(s) of wifi security but I live in a small village at the end of a cul-de-sac that even couriers have difficulty finding. If someone was to a) come across my wifi network and b) manage to sit outside my house long enough to use mac spoofing or something to access my wifi I think I'd congratulate them and take them for a beer as they'd deserve one!
This app has the features that I'm looking for, but can't get it to sync properly with Outlook.
Samsung Galaxy Skyrocket SGH-I727
MyPhoneExplorer 1.8.2
Windows XP Home SP3
Connection viaWIFI
Trying to sync Outlook 2003 (updated to 2007)
The PC & the Android are connected via Wifi but the Outlook information will not transfer to the phone.
While writing this, and closing MPE, MPE prompted me to sync before closing, gave the window with the items to be updated.
I changed one of the events in MPE on the PC. disconnected from the Samsung Android, reconnected to the SA via WIFI,
then got a prompt that changes will not be applied unless I sync now. I clicked yes, got the Outlook email warning, clicked ok, then got the sync warning.
How can I sync on demand, without going thru the above process?

The program seems to work fine. I did not see the synch & download buttons on the MPE toolbar, duh, what a doofus I can be.

MPE can be a little confusing the way it works. I guess it's because it's the work of one person (as far as I can tell) rather than a large corporation who have loads of SW testers. Once you see how it works it's absolutely the dog's wotsits ...
I want to give my thanks for MPE - it truly was a lifesaver for me. I got an EVO when it first came out (1 1/2 yrs ago?) and was using the Palm system (Treo), which worked really well for me syncing between my office and home. MPE is also close to the Palm desktop look which I like.
On my new Evo, Best Buy couldn't upload my contacts, so I had to have Sprint do it. Duplicates, fragmented contacts (one with phone number, separate one for his email, etc.) Ended up with several THOUSAND contacts. They recommended including google calendar for syncing, and I had inconsistent syncs from HTC.
Hesitated to try other softwares, as there was often major complaints or concerns.
It took some time, but with MPE I was able to easily see and consolidate or delete duplicate entries. Did a BU first of course. I now have it down to 770 contacts, which easily sync with home, office, Outlook 2007 and Google.
I wish I knew about this sooner. Just wanted to post my thanks (I did contribute too) so others in the same boat may see the solution they have been waiting for.
I probably don't use the program yet to its fullest, but it has worked well for me - it was a nightmare before sorting through several contacts for someone every time I needed a phone number, etc. I have stopped using the buggy HTC sync.
The only issue I notice sometimes, is that a contact that I haven't changed comes up occasionally in a sync session.
thanks for the tip on the My phone explorer app, but I can't figure out how to configure it to synch my contacts with Outlook. Since Outlook can't synch contacts with GMAIL well, where should my contacts be located in Outlook? (main contact folder, under the gmail account, under a hotmail account, etc.). And which account should I be sync-ing them with in the My Phone Explorer client app on the phone?
Any pointers would be appreciated!
Right now I show one set of contacts in Outlook and one on the phone. But Myphoneexplorer app on PC shows two of everything, so I am concerned if I run it I will get duplicates.

I can tell you what my settings are.
I recall I first synced it through USB (what I still use), and then I edited duplicates on MPE, which was tedious but easier than any other platform I had tried. Then I synced that back to my phone, overwriting it.
In settings, under sync, there are drop down boxes for contacts, calendar, notes that i have assigned to outlook.
I do not sync my phone with google calendar anymore, but it syncs with outlook and stays updated that way.
Not sure if i answered your concern. BEFORE doing any initial sync, i did backup databases in case it backfired, but all went well.
My Phone Explorer endlessly attempting to install Roxio Media Manager?
Whenever I bring up (newly-installed) my phone explorer it goes into an endless loop trying to install roxio media manager to a directory that does not exist. Is there a resolution to this? Does it need roxio media manager? (I have windows 7)
Thanks! I am just synching contacts. when you selected Outlook 2007, did you select the main contacts account, or any particular email account (I have gmail, hotmail, etc.).
Also, on the phone did you completely turn off the synching of contacts with all other accounts?

autosync is off on my phone. I sync the main contacts, nothing separate that I know of.
Also, no roxio program tried to install - you may want to contact the MSE programmer or search the website for FAQs. Wonder if it was a new check box you missed unchecking?
How can I filter which contacts are synced to my Android phone?
I have an HTC MyTouch 4G Android phone serviced by T-Mobile and want to use MyPhoneExplorer to sync some of my Outlook contacts to my phone. All of the contacts that I want to sync have the IM field set to BB in Outlook (IM stands for Instant Messenger).
In the MyPhoneExplorer Settings->Sync window, I set Contacts to Outlook 2010 and clicked on the Advanced button. In the Settings for Outlook window I have the following checked:
Outlook/Contacts
Use Outlook add-in
Force Outlook -> phone
Show confirmation window
I then clicked on Exceptions expecting to be able to enter a filter for which contacts to sync. In the Exceptions for Outlook window I clicked on "Add new entries from Outlook only if...". A small pop-up appears with three options that are all grayed out.
Is there some way that I can tell MyPhoneExplorer to sync only contacts that have something in the IM field? If not, is there something else I can set in my Outlook contacts to have MyPhoneExplorer select that contact for sync?

You should ask over at the MPE forums, but I don't think so. The way I'd do it, and maybe it's just because it's a way that works for me so I haven't bothered to investigate further, is to have a separate sub-folder(s) under 'Contacts' in Outlook. I have several and you can choose which ones to sync in MPE in Settings > Sync > Contacts > [Outlook] Advanced. In Outlook you just have to <right click> < properties> Outlook .... > Show as Outlook address book (or similar) to ensure the folder is checked when you, for example, want to type an email address.

I am preparing a demonstration for senior citizens (aged over 50) on the use of smart phones, their features and capabilities.
I am using MPE via the menu Extras and using the 'Phone KeyPad' option.
The android phone is a SamSung Galaxy S II.
For some reason after having navigated around the smart phone - using the controlling PC my PC freezes completely - unable to move the cursor and when hitting the PC keyboard Caps Lock and Num Lock keys neither lights toggle on or off - indicating that the system has frozen.
The freezing does not happen at a set time - it is sporadic - I can work the cellphone for 5, 10 or 20 minutes before the PC stops or after one minute the PC stops.
I return to controlling the phone I have to disconnect the USB cable press the PC start button to restart. The smart phone is operable even though the PC freezes.
Of course this scenario is hopeless when conducting a demonstration.
Could some kind expert tell me what the issue may be and how to resolve the problem so I can have a continuous live connection between the PC and smartphone
Edit 1: I should've mentioned that I have already checked updates for all my devices and Graphics Card. I 'apparently' have all current versions. There was no requirement to update.
Thanks - I await the advice

Reason: Failed to mention that I have checked for updates to devices and Graphics card - all are current
I did mention in my original message that I have rechecked my drivers and graphic card drivers but they are all up-to-date. Never-the-less, as you were kind enough to respond I decided to obtain a fresh copy of the Graphic Driver software (nVidia) and re-installed after removing the previously (but same version) installed software.
As I suspected it made no difference to the freezing of my PC after connecting my smartphone via USB and using myphoneexplorer version 1.8.2.
What else must I try to resolve the issue I am experiencing?
How do I get the calendar to appear on my phone? I downloaded the program, and synced it with Outlook 2007 (contacts, calendar, notes and tasks). The contacts, notes and tasks appear in my phone (LG p505), but not the calendar. The only options I have for calendar on the phone are Google and Microsoft Exchange). All I want to do is sync my Outlook calendar onto my phone via a USB cable. Thanks.
