Default MyPhoneExplorer - manage your phone via PC - now also for Android

Maybe some of you know the project MyPhoneExplorer already. After a long time of developing i made it also compatible with Android-Phones. MyPhoneexplorer is a PC-Software which makes managing your phone easy.

You can:
• manage your phonebook including sync with Outlook, Outlook Express, Windows Contacts (Vista, Win7), Thunderbird, Lotus Notes and Tobit David
• manage your calendar including sync with Outlook, Thunderbird, Sunbird, Seabird, Rainlendar, Lotus Notes, Tobit David and plain iCal-Files
• manage your call-lists
• manage your messages (archiv them, delete them, send new messages)
• browse and transfer file from/to the phone. Including file-sync, photo-sync and playlist-editor
• manage your applications (launch, install, uninstall, download packages to PC)
• manage your calls (dial, answer, reject them)
• manage your alarns
• run Monitor to take a look at the current statistics of the phone
• make screenshots (only throught USB-Cable)
• make backups of your contacts, calendar and messages

The connection to phone can be etablished either via WiFi or via USB-Cable. If you use the USB-Cable you will need also the ADB-Drivers for your device.

I know there are already some projects which allow Sync and other tasks with more or less problems. I hope that MyPhoneExplorer will do the job better and faster. We will see ;-)

IMPORTANT: I am developing this Freeware-Project since years in my free time. This costs alot of time and money. With your donation you will ensure the future development.

You can download MyPhoneExplorer at www.fjsoft.at

This is an amazin app that I was using sometime back when I had my SonyEricsson. Sorely missed the app when I switched to symbian.

Now I'm with android and I want to thank the developer so much for bringing this wonderful app to the android platform

Have been using it for a day and find it great so far.

For everyone who has been missing a complete PC manager for android phones(something like Nokia PC suite, but much lighter and much much useful) then this is the app to get.

One suggestion to developer. Please update the web-page to a basic how to install and connect for android. It needs both an app on PC and an app on android to connect and sync.

Edit: Conversation view of my sms still lists sent/received separately. Can this be made threaded just like in the phone?? That would be awsome...
And the device icons are not fully covering the phones supported I guess. I use a HTC desire and though the model identified is correct, the image displayed is of some old SE phone..

Edit2: You can just put a screen-shot of the app here. Will help it get more attention it truly deserves....

Love the idea. File, SMS and calls works fine, but when I try to sync with Outlook 2010 (Win7 64), or when I try to download my contacts from the phone to the MyPhoneExplorer Desktop Client, it force closes.

Other than that, it connected via WiFi immediately, and looks smooth. Looking forward to it working properly, then I will donate!

Used on a Desire with 2.2

@vpraveenis: FAQ on my Homepage will come - i just had no time for this. Conversation-View should be also visible if you connect a Android in MyPhoneExplorer. There are many new supported models, i don't know if i'll add all images. But this has no hurry

@haddock: Please update the client from market. The bugs should be fixed

Havent use MyPhoneExplorer since se610 days. Tried it on xperia mini pro and wifi, and it could not read sms or calendar. But the other features worked.

Was missing a "nokia pc suite" like program, so if the sms gets working its great

Just updated, but still FC. I haven't tried after a restart, but will do that later when I have time. Thanks for the quick response though!

Thank you zillertaler!

This is exactly what I've been looking for.

No PC Suite came with the Nexus One and I have been trying to get by with the Chinese 91 PC Suite.

IMHO this should come as standard with all Android phones as it is fully configurable and multi functional.

It reminds me of the Nokia PC Suite on steroids.

I like the WiFi setup and the ability to read, and backup/restore, both phone and SD card memory.

The sync with Office Outlook 2007 works great!

I also like the text message features as well. Would be nice to have MMS as well (or am I missing something?).

Would like thumbnails in Images on the SD card too.

I hope you don't mind but I'm copying and pasting a list of supported Android phones from your website, here:-

FJ Software Development

List of supported Android-Phones

Acer bTouch E110 HTC Tattoo SonyEricsson X10 mini Acer bTouch E400 HTC Wildfire SonyEricsson X10 mini pro Acer Liquid Motorola Backflip T-Mobile G1 Acer Stream Motorola CLIQ T-Mobile G2 Dell Aero Motorola DEXT Dell Streak Motorola Droid Pro Google Nexus One Motorola Droid X HTC Desire Motorola Flipout HTC Dream Motorola Milestone HTC Evo 4G Samsung Galaxy I7500 HTC Hero Samsung Galaxy Leo I5801 HTC Incredible Samsung Galaxy S I9000 HTC Lancaster Samsung Galaxy Spica I5700 HTC Legend SonyEriccson X8 HTC Magic SonyEricsson X10

Will be donating for this one.

So, has this app made it to the market yet or is it still 3rd party download?

I'd like to see reviews from long term forum members here as well.

Keeps getting error message like OBEX transfer could not be initiated. Can you give an instructions of how to set it up. Can't find any on your website. I can't read German.

I love this! Found out about it through another thread, and it works with my calendar really well. But IIRC, it says we shouldn't sync with Google Calendar?

Can it backup photos and videos automatically and sync designated folders?

Have been using Missing Sync but kind of disappointed...

I use it to sync all my music. 3500+ songs, 22GB+ music total.

Beware! In March 2011, when I used MyPhoneExplorer (version 1.8.0) it could only properly handle the 16 Outlook data fields listed below. Consequently, upon resynchronization MyPhoneExplorer destroyed the Outlook contacts on my PC by deleting information like "Categories", "Business2 Phone", "Other Address", etc. Based on the recent complaints on the MyPhoneExplorer forum, it seems that the current version of MyPhoneExplorer (version 1.8.1) still has this same serious problem.

So now I automatically synchronize Outlook & Android contacts and calendar for free, via Hotmail, which requires no software on the PC, and no app on the phone.

MyPhoneExplorer only properly handles the following 16 Outlook fields and deletes all other fields from Outlook upon resynchronization.
1) First name
2) Last name
3) Company name
4) Home phone
5) Mobile phone
6) Business phone
7) Fax
8) Other phone
9) Home address
10 Work address
11) Email1
12) Email2
13) Email3
14) Web page
15) Info/Notes
16) Birthday

I think MyPhoneExplorer also can't properly handle recurring events on the calendar, right? (Hotmail syncrhonizes recurring events properly.)

Other than the fact that MyPhoneExplorer can't properly synchronize contacts and calendar with Outlook, it's a nice piece of software.

Otherwise it's nice.
The problem with recurring events is, from what I understand, a calendar problem, not a sync problem as such. That is, even a M'Soft VP, replying to a forum question about editing recurring events suggested what I do now when changing a single occurrence. That is, you edit the recurrance such that it now ends at the event before the one being edited. The one being edited is now a single event, which in effect it is, and the rest of the sequence is a new recurring event starting from the next event in the series.

Definitely NOT my experience. MPE might not sync some fields (eg those not replicated on Android) but all it does is leave them in Outlook.

Sorry razz-ma-tazz. It wasn't my experience either with MyPhoneExplorer.

In fact, if MPE is replacing anything it gives you a screen of items and options to choose from so long as you have the Advanced option, in Contacts and Calendar, of "Show confirmation window before making any changes" ticked... which it is by default.

Recurring events and exceptions are the nasty bxxx of Outlook, and the ability to handle them is a major criteria with which I judge a sync program's usefulness.

MyPhoneExplorer didn't delete my data from Outlook when I exported to the phone. (It just didn't export the unsupported data fields like you said.) But MyPhoneExplorer did delete my data in Outlook when I resynchronized from the phone back to Outlook. Apparently MyPhoneExplorer thought that the contacts on the phone (which were missing the unsupported data fields) were "newer" than the contacts in Outlook, and so it overwrote those contacts, essentially deleting any data in the unsupported fields. (Fortunately I had a backup of my Outlook contacts.)

Are you guys saying that you've done multiple 2-way synchronizations between Outlook and an Android device and that the unsupported Outlook data fields didn't get deleted upon 2-way resynchronization (back to Outlook)? Do you guys use the unsupported data fields, like "Categories", and "Business2 phone"?

So Ironass is saying that I have the option to go through the massive hassle of reviewing each data field for each my 1000 contacts to determine which data field is more up-to-date? And if I make a mistake, I permanently ruin my Outlook contacts? No thanks. I think I'll just continue to syncrhonize contacts & calendar the free, automatic, foolproof way.

But I hope that the original poster, and developer, Zillerthaler comes back again and clarifies this important issue.

Yes, I have done multiple 2-way synchronizations between Outlook and an Android device. On two different phones with two different versions of Windows. I've never had any information deletion. Yes, I use Business2 phone and Categories and other fields that aren't synced to Google.

I have never observed information that MyPhoneExplorer doesn't sync being deleted from Outlook. And yes, I have verification procedures to make sure my contacts are intact.

Just create a test contact that, in Outlook, uses fields such as Business2 phone. Sync using MPE to the phone, change it on the phone, sync it back, go check in Outlook, Business2 phone will still be there.

@RazzMaTazz: MyPhoneExplorer does not change any unsupported fields in Outlook. Even the supported fields are only changed if they are diffrent. The only reason for your problem can be that the sync went wrong and MyPhoneExplorer did delete and re-add the contacts in Outlook. The confoirmation-window is not made to review the data of 1000 contacts but in your case it would show that contacts will be removed/added and that a unusual high amount of items will be changed -> so its really helpfully. MyPhoneExplorer is inbetween used by thousands of users to sync with Outlook. Your problem happens from time to time but very rarely so its not a general issue.

Since v1.8.1 the ruled events of Outlook are also transfered completly to phone - including all exceptions. There are issues with ruled events (f.e. with special rule-definitions or very early startdates) but these are bugs in the calendar-application of the phone. The data are correctly transfered.

You mean OpenCandy. This is a promotion-tool system which helps to keep MyPhoneExplorer free. there are no hidden (bad) actions, you can choose during installing if you want to install additional software or not.

Thanks for the heads-up. I didn't realize there was an option not to install it, was there one...?

Would rather pay than having an adware installed. Maybe the dev can consider this....

It would appear RazzMaTazz that, for whatever reason, you have had an unfortunate experience with MyPhoneExplorer.

However, I can assure you that it sync's perfectly well for me, both ways, between my handset and Outlook, as it seems to do for a lot of other people.

Certainly - no adware on MPE desktop client or android app here.

Above the developer says that the "problem happens from time to time". I'm sure that you have no idea what percentage of users are experiencing the problem. But if it works for you, I'm happy for you. Good luck.

Before syncing contacts, especially for the first time, a backup is prudent. It doesn't matter what sync method you use, a backup of all your contacts is in order.

@RazzMaTazz: "From time to time" means that these problems can happen in special cases. The software is downloaded monthly more than 100.000 times and in relation to this amount of users the problems are really not much. You had not a good experience - OK. If you collect objective reviews then you'll see that the users have much more problems with payed solutions and also with the brand solutions like HTC Sync, KIES,... . Another point you should know: MyPhoneExplorer has a official forum where you can see all problems at one place so you might think there are only problems. Other tools does not have a central public place for problems.

In another thread you got angry cause i did answer only "known" in case of some missing fields for sync. I have answered this request many times and on some point i think the user (YOU) can also use the search in my forum so i do not answer the whole bunch every time

Default Same name

I have over 1200 contacts due to my job and with that many people, you end up with two people (or more) with the same name. In Outlook it's not a problem because they may have a different middle initial or you can choose "file as" to include the company name which differentiates the two contacts. When I sync my Samsung Galaxy S 4G using MPE, it merges these contacts into one contact. It seems to keep all of the phone numbers and other fields from each of the contacts, but it adds all of them into a single contact. I don't now if this is an issue with MPE or with my Galaxy. Right now, I have MPE setup to force outlook to phone to keep my outlook file from being changed. Does anyone have any ideas?

Auto-Merging is a "feature" in Android which has basicly nothing to do with MyPhoneExplorer. In MyPhoneExplorer you should see thos contacts also seperate - if this is the case then everything is OK. When you edit such a contact in Android then you will be asked which contact you want to edit.

You are correct. They are shown separately on MPE on my PC, so it is happening after it is transferred to the phone. When I open the contact on my phone, it just has the info from the two contacts combined into one. I attempted to edit the contact on my phone, but it didn't ask me which contact to edit. I realize that this problem isn't with MPE, but is there any way to turn off the auto merge feature or is there a better way to address this issue. Thanks for the help.

Try the Edit-Screen for the contact in the phone, press the menu-button and choose "Seperate" -> i hope you have not too much contacts ;-)

Thank you very much. I started doing a little research yesterday and it looks like this has been a problem with Android for several years. It also looks like Google has been made aware of the problem and has ignored it.

I tried doing what you said, but I don't seem to have an option to separate. When I choose edit, it simply brings up the contacts information. If I bring up the menu by holding my finger on the contact, it gives me the following options:

Edit
Delete
Join contact
Send contact information
Add to favorites
Mark as default
Send namecard via

There was no option to separate. I have a Samsung Galaxy s 4g running froyo 2.2.1. Is it possible that the separate option has been removed?

Thanks again

Thanks for your help. I just wanted to mention this in case anyone else was unable to find the option to "Separate". I don't know if this is a change in Version 2.2, but I didn't have that option. I found a forum where others had posted about the same problem and the procedure is a little different than on earlier versions of Android.

If you have a contact that is joined to one or more contacts and you want them separated, follow the procedure shown by zillertaler up until the point where you are supposed to choose "separate". After opening up the edit screen, scroll down the contact screen and you will find a field with two (or more) green telephone symbols and the word "joined". Press on that field and it will open up a new screen with the list of joined contacts related to this contact. There is a minus (-) to the right of these. Press the minus sign next to the second contact (and or third, fourth, etc..) and it will separate the contacts.

I hope this wasn't too confusing. Thanks again for the assistance.

Lloyd

Is there any chance you will be adding EPIM (EssentialPIM) to this list? I hope!!

I did use google for this topic with search string: "Unlink contacts", maybe you want to search yourself

EPIM:This software has no API to access the data. I know that they are discussing about an Interface but till now nothing happened
