Default Best Apps to Backup EVERYTHING so I can upgrade a Rooted 2.1 Desire & some Rooted Qs

Yea, so I rooted my 2.1 Desire, YUM! But now my carrier has released 2.2, and I'm having a woeful time upgrading. So questions

A - Is it possible to upgrade to the official 2.2 firmware on a Rooted device
B - If not, can a rooted phone be derouted and then upgraded via FOTA
C - If this is possible, Will my phone data be wiped (ie loose all apps, sms etc)

Re Apps
D - What are the best apps out there to backup apps, settings, SMS and other data?
E - Re the App backup packages, when the apps are restored, will they be recognised in Market for updaes etc?
F - If not, is it possible to backup a lit of apps to automatically/manually restore them from Market.

1. Yes it is.
2. Yes, a phone can be de-rooted if need be.
3. not sure about SMS...I never keep them. Apps...yes. Assume everything will get wiped.
D. Titanium Backup...undisputed back up king. Do yourself a favor and get the paid version.

Titanium Backup ? root - Android app on AppBrain

E. Yes they will. Titanium will restore apps and their data. Do NOT restore system data when restoring on a new version of Android.
F. Google keeps a list of all your apps. If all else fails you can download apps, free and paid, again. You will not have to pay again for paid apps.

You might want to sign up with Appbrain too. It keeps track of all your apps and is great for searching and installing apps. Look for Fast Web Installer...you can use it to bypass the Market and install directly from the web site.

Learn to use Titanium first. It is a very useful and effective app.

Following on:
1 - How can I do this? I can't seem to do it via FOTA
D - Living in Ireland and they only allow Free apps via Market for some reason. will look at the free version though
F - How do I get this list of apps. Is it done automatically? How do I go about restoring it?
Appbrain - Does it link with Market, is it the same apps via a different source, does it have more/less of what's in Market or is it something totally different, like Cydia/AppStore on the iPhone

I'm not a fan of the Appbrain app myself. That's just me and it could well be user error on my part. I would do this.

Backup via Titanium.
Backup via Nandroid.
Look up how to unroot your phone and go back to stock. This method differs from phone to phone I think so you'll have to look in the root sub-forum for your phone.
If you don't want to unroot, you can flash a custom Froyo rom (if available).
After you upgrade, root again (if necessary) and use Titanium to restore all your apps and settings. This will restore the market links for those apps as well.
