Default festering bg apps--unremovable junk-apps--HELP!

Seriously though, isn't there someway to have a real, honest 'x' button-type-thing...a way to truly exit or close apps without having to open a task manager every time? I've seen posts where folks liked to think that once in the bg they do no harm, but not according to the CPU meters I'm seeing. Because either they're somehow using 20% of CPU just to measure the CPU, or there's a lot of crap running in the bg that I just don't need.

Anyone know of a hack or overlay that gives us back control?

You would need a custom ROM that would mod the OS and disable the added (to 1.6) battery Status Function ...

I have not heard of such a ROM ...

Of course the CPU is going to use Battery duh!!! BG capable phones done do this for free ...

Er...right...can't argue with that.

It's what's using the CPU that's on my mind, and how to get rid of it.
