This is the best browser for Android period. You did a nice job xSpope and I am looking forward to all of the great new features that youare working on.
I sent the xscope developer an email about this but I cannot see embedded youtube links on websites including this one using the latest version of xscope. I like almost everything else about it especially the speed. I'm running 2.1 and the stock browser has no problems.
I just downloaded xScope Browser Lite on my Nexus but I am not able to use the Pinch and Zoom feature, can u tell what the problem may be?
Hi garvkapur,
It's been stated in previous posts in this thread that the 'Lite' version does not support Multitouch. While I feel like there is some confusion amongst all of the different versions, maybe xScope, the developer can address the differences in Lite vs. the others.
Some other issues you may be running into could be caused by the previously documented issues with the multitouch on the Nexus One when pitted against the Motorola Droid. See this video for an example.
If android 2.0+, both lite and paid versions support multi-touch.
If android 1.5/1.6, no.
This is totally determined by the SDK provided by Google.

Anyone can confirm this? No problem on my Droid and G1.

Could be that I'm running a leaked version of 2.1 in an Htc eris. Xscope has been very responsive my comments. It's the video links that don't appear that are embedded on blogs and others sites from youtube. But youtube sites themselves site and play the videos fine. As does vimeo.

WHY?
My Hero running Android 1.5 perfectly supports multitouch / pinch and zoom in other apps including the HTC browser, so why not xScope? The only requirement should be a capacitive screen.
I love xscope however I can not find a way to forward a link to another via email. Am i missing this or do I just have to cut and paste from the url?
Any help would be appreciated
Xscope, just wanted to chime in here... the browser is awesome. It is the first app I have paid for and did so gladly, developers like you deserve to be supported. Keep up the good work!

Because from a development point of view, the Dev Kit doesn't support multitouch easily for those older versions of Android.
It would take him MUCH more work to make it function, and it's probably just not feasible.
This is a classic fragmentation of the android system.
In software terms, we consider whatever maintained from Google as trunk while all others branches. The branches could have much better features (like the MT you have mentioned from HTC). However those branches' APIs is not part of the standard SDK and usually not accessible to third party developers. Android 1.5 doesn't support MT. But modified 1.5 branch of HTC does. However usually developers write apps run across 1.5 rather than HTC device only. In this case, developers just can't use HTC's API (theoritically can through reflections but in practice few people will do that).

I'm wondering though if it does or does not include Flash. I'm using the Sprint Hero with a 2.1 ROM and websites that require flash aren't working. However, if I use the stock browser that comes with the ROM, Flash works just fine. So I'm wondering if this is a fault in the app or if maybe just the app doesn't play nicely with the ROM?
Would it be possible to add an option to disable pinch-zoom (but keeping pin-zoom active)?
I've been having problems with xScope zooming in and out whenever I try and flick-scroll a bit too fast. I think it's caused by the multitouch registering a 2nd click which causes a pinch-zoom to be detected.
Btw, Dolphin also seems to have this problem, whereas the stock browser on my phone (multitouch-enabled) doesn't, so there must be a way to avoid it without just disabling multitouch, but having the option to disable it would be great for now.
Drodwned my Droid last week. Had to reload my apps. Sweeterhome was running great onold phone. Currently have significant slowdowns on booting phone, when activating trays and when returning from other apps. How do I check if its my os vs sweeterhome and any suggested remedies?. if sweeterhome what should I do.
Just downloaded xScope, and I have to say -- I'm impressed as hell. This thing is both fast and powerful, and it's new default browser.
My only complaint: the ugly icon. I hope you guys can work on that someday.
If only people had seen what this started out like. I'm not ripping on xScope (he already knows my true feelings about him... I mean his app... ) by any means. I just remember when you were starting off with the whole project. It was fun to watch it evolve. But anyways, back on topic, the original icon was worse so I still find this one to be a huge improvement (not saying there's not room for more!).
OK, here's an xScope question. One of the main things I use mobile web for is clicking through to links from news feeds and e-mail. In the stock browser, after I've read the webpage I can just click the back button to return to the other program, but that's not the case with xScope. I don't suppose I can change xScope's behavior in those situations to match that of the default browser?
I like the browser BUT I have one issue. When attempting to long press the back key, the menu flashes on and off in rapid succession. When I release the button I sometimes get the menu, sometimes I don't and sometimes the app is sent to the back. It make the menu feature useless. The same feature works fine in Steel, Dolphin, etc. I'm using the 1.5/1.6 lite version on a Samsung Moment.

I should clarify this a bit ... the expected behavior does happen if xScope isn't running when I click on a weblink contained in another app. If xScope is running, though, hitting the back key keeps me in xScope rather than returns me to the other app.
Thanks for reporting this. I have found the same. Not realizing that the same code can behaves so differently on different android systems. I will find a fix.

When I click a link (say from somewhere like fark.com) that opens in a new tab, xscope switches to the new tab. The problem is that it also loads the link in the original tab in the background. I end up with the same page loaded in both tabs.
Its not really a big deal, Xscope is still my favorite browser so far, but it is annoying.
Anyone else have this issue? Just me? Using a Droid 2.01.

I'm not having that issue. However, on Facebook (the touch site) I cannot open links in a new tab (however it'd make sense logically that this problem is due more to Facebook). When I was testing this, I realized that it doesn't vibrate when it opens the link in the new tab. I really liked that because it was an easy way to tell that it opened it up in a new tab. Just saying. Keep up the good work!

3/22
1. Fixed downloaded images not showing immediately in gallery app problem.
2. Added a speed dial style of home page. On bottom of your homepage, the second icon, click it to rotate from List, Icons, and Thumbnails(speed dial like desktop browsers).
3. Added an Opera theme(beta) by one developer here.
4. Finally, you can swipe the notification bar down or push it up to hide it.
You can always pull down/push up the notification bar with a swipe from very top. Apparently we need an option to lock the notification bar in settings somewhere. We will work on one.
Thanks,
Gary

1. The long swipe to go to tabs is a nice feature, however I would like to be able to turn this off in settings as I just use the tab bar at the top.
2. The closing tab animation looks nice but is a bit unnecessary and potentially adds to slow down (on my Hero anyway).
3. Pin zoom is great, but I would like some sort of indication to let me know when it is active after the 2nd tap ie a small beep / vibrate or maybe a visual clue.
I've only been using this app for a short while but I am very impressed. Sorry if I mentioned something that has already been discussed, I'll admit I haven't read the entire thread.
I just bought this browser (first thing I bought in fact) and it's excellent. But I would like to second something to keep the notification bar on-screen. Full-screen is better for the web, but I really like knowing what time it is (and what my data connection is doing). =P
I will try to make an option to disable animation. Thanks.
The app is originally developed on a Droid and then ported to 1.5/1.6 phones. I have bought a G1 just for testing it. I agree that the animation is slow.
Pin zoom will be an option too in the next update. Providing cues? I will try heptic.
Thanks

Yes. It is a mistake.
Next update there will be a setting to make the notification bar always on.

Had to register to say that this is a great browser. Well worth the $0.99 asking price for the 1.5/1.6 version. Can't wait to try the 2.x version when that OS is officially available for the Eris.
Some websites, for example google.com, has a script to always make its content across whatever screen is available. Some don't.
For those that have the script (100%), the content dictates the browser to zoom back. Don't have a good solutions yet at this moment. Sorry.

Mike
P.s. this browser is AWESOME! Well worth the money.
Got a quick question, for some reason when I go to an site that requires a log in (google or FB for instance) it makes me re enter my log in info every time. Not a big deal but is there a setting that I can use to make it keep that filled in? (not sure if cookies would cause this but can't find our how to turn those on or off to try)...
Or is it something that has nothing to do with the browser? Other then that little hic up I still love the app...

That tickles something in the back of my memories. I have a vague recollection of once or twice seeing a web page rendered such that there was a white box the same size as the password input, floating one line above the input itself (which was also visible). It only happened when I did something that caused the browser to redo its layout, like switching from portrait to landscape or opening/closing the keyboard on my Droid. I never fully figured out what user actions triggered the behavior, but it seems to track with the idea that there might be a second input at work with password inputs.
I recently stumbled on something that sheds light on the problem where the password input doesn't show the characters entered into it. I had entered several characters into a password input, then zoomed in really far (the password input took up a quarter of the screen), and suddenly I could see the characters properly. xScope, is this something you've seen or can reproduce?

Though I'm still loving xScope, and am very happy with the way it renders most pages, there are definitely a few that have fairly major issues. One that I just encountered was the Google Groups site, where the messages themselves are hopelessly buried under other elements of the page.
Are there workarounds, or at least some hope for the future? I hate having to switch back and forth between browsers ...
One thing I've noticed about the update is that, since you've added the speed-dial look for the home page, it grabs screenshots of each bookmark. That's nice and I like it except it saves those pictures and then appear in my gallery; not so nice. Can you add the .nomedia or whatever to that so to prevent that from happening?
