Default News Reader independant of Google Reader

I am trying to find a News Reader and find that most of them seem to rely on feeds from Google Reader and seem not to recognise UK based feeds (or at least I cannot find the same feeds that I used on my iPhone).

I also do not want to use their ideas about groupings, but have all the feeds immediately available to me.

Any suggestions?

Default RSS app found.

I found one simply called News by meecal. I found it by searching for RSS on the Android market (there are lots, I picked the first one that was free, looked simple, and had at least 4 stars). I was able to add one of the feeds from CBC.ca - RSS Feeds, which I hadn't been able to do using the default news reader.

Hope this helps

I use the newsreader embedded with Opera Mini. Super quick loads of pages. Would highly recommend Opera Mini as a default browser if, like me, you mostly read news, research, etc.

+1 for NewsRoom, brilliant if you aren't a Google Reader user.

I used to like NewsRob, then NewsRoom. Recently, I've discovered an RSS aggregator that, for me, trumps them all: BuzzBox. It's free in the Market: BuzzBox News ~ Android Application v2.0.11 By BuzzBox, Inc. | News & Weather

my favorite so far is Pulse
Pulse News Reader - Android app on AppBrain

it has a full screen app and 2 widget sizes.

I'm trying out Buzzbox but I'm not too impressed. Some of the feeds are very old or non-existant.
Examples:
Reddit's main rss feed shows no entries despite being an extremely active site.
Overheard in the Office's has feeds dated 4 days ago as the newest.

+2 for Newsroom, it's feature to only display articles that have not been viewed is the winner for me.

Are there any news reader apps that let you create feeds or categories ONLY BASED OFF KEYWORDS OR PHRASES like HTC News & Weather?

Seconded. I've been using Buzzbox a LOT more than my Google Reader-synced NewsRob, and I love it. Also has a FANTASTIC widget.

Thank you all very much for you help - I have tried a number, and gone for NewsRoom for news feeds (I really like the fact that it loads the body of the feed in addition to the title and summary). The only thing it does not do is download RSS Podcasts - I use BeyondPod for that.
