My phone and sd card memory is very full and im sure that a lot of this is unused folders and data left behind by old uninstalled apps, temporary files etc.

is there some kind of disk clean up app i could get to remove all of this junk?

I have asked this before and of what I was told there is not an app yet to clean this up. I am hoping someone knows of one as i am running into the same problem. I did notice that if you turn your phone off it will release some memory, but I know what you mean about losing to much because of uninstalled apps. I also hope that there will be a fix to this in the near future because I cant see why uninstalling an app would leave used up memory ?? But with 2.2 and being able to install some apps to SD has helped I just hope that more apps become able to store to SD..
