Default tasker locate phone via email

I've seen tasker instructions on how to check for keywords in text and the send location info via email in case of lost phone.

I wonder if there is a a way to do this via gmail since I don't use texts since I have Google voice

Any help would be appreciated

No, Tasker can only send SMS without user assistance.

It can compose an email, however the user presses send or cancel.

It does use gmail to compose emails.

you can get it to send out the email without user interaction

it's just not that straight forward tho, you have to run a script and then create variables which hold your username & password & body of the email...

but what the OP wants is for tasker to scan through the body of the email instead of scan through the body of an sms...

anyone else? i don't have K9 mail so haven't done much experimenting with it and tasker

actually, i want to setup something to locate my phone in case its lost. I don't want to use another program because most phone locators use SMS and my phone has that turned off.

I think it would be very easy for me to say, if you get a call from number x (i'll make this number my google voice that I can activate through my computer) then email me your location.

Do you have the script that would be necessary to have it send me the email? I just want to phone to respond to me with %loc

Send email with attachments - Tasker Wiki - has everything you will need for the email script, and more.

I am able to send an SMS to an email address manually. In the To field I put in an ordinary email address, put in the desired text and hit send. It works every time.

However when I ask Tasker to send an SMS with the same addressee and text it balks on an "unknown null-value sending SMS to..." I've even tried assigning the email address to a variable and using the variable as an addressee but get the same error. Is this a short coming of Tasker? If it works manually outside of Tasker wouldn't Tasker be expected to emulate that action?

Anybody else run into this problem?

So what do you need an email for? You already know you lost your phone, right? You only need to know where it is to go get it. So use e.g. free MyLookout! It will show you on a map where your phone is. And will even make it 'scream' if you need that to locate it.
