Oh sorry I left that out, jkanos! Actually the thing that frustrated me so much WAS the layout. Having two letters on the same key was difficult for me. I just couldn't get it down pat and I honestly tried! It just seemed really weird. Also, I use voice a lot and I don't think it had a voice feature. Voice is amazingly accurate for me on Better Keyboard and also on the Smart Keyboard.
I'm sure that Keypurr is a great keyboard and well, that's why they make Chocolate and Vanilla and Strawberry. I'm big on Chocolate and can take or leave Vanilla and can't stand Strawberry! LOL
Go figure. I hope my feedback has helped you understand my reasoning more.
First I almost never have to flick to type English words (no flicks for letters on this sentence and probably for the rest of this post).
But I do use symbols and numbers a lot so I've got it down to a science. Here's how: do a short gesture - start from the key you want to flick from, slide to the key above or below and release. Always works! (Exclamation mark and brackets here on 1st try!)
So really, the use of the word "flick" is actually the wrong word - "short slide" would be more appropriate.
(Btw, not a single slide needed for this whole post, and not a single miss on the punctuations! Love this!)
Edit: not a single slide needed for letters in this post, that is
Thanks for the tip. I gave it another try and getting to the secondary letters/symbols is a lot easier.
The moment many of you have been waiting for is here: a full-featured free trial version of Keypurr is available on Android Market. Download it as soon as possible because it expires on January 10 regardless of when it's installed.
And don't forget to post your feedback here - we're listening.
Too bad for those who are slow and did not see this until the 11th or 12th or Feb, March, etc. Most comments are positive, but without a trial, no go.
The demise of the 24 hour policy hinders developer sales. Developers must have a better way to trial, not just a "should have been here yesterday" program.

Any chance for another trial for us slow pokes?
Scott
I think the free trial is still available on the market.

Yep! You're right! I know it was still there yesterday but just did a search and only the paid version comes up, unless there is a free trial somewhere on the internet.
I made a note to buy it before the discount rate ran out, then forgot. I see it is at the market rate now, snooze you lose. May take the plunge in the future.
Thank you again for all the invaluable feedback. Keep an eye out for substantial new features in the very near future, in addition to the new free version.
That's awesome! I will look forward to the new free trial!

I really like the way Keypurr is so friendly and 'user interactive'. I'll definitely give it a try when the trial version gets back out. Hope it's soon. I do have Better Keyboard now but I'm still looking for that puuuurrrrrfect keyboard. LOL
@Rusty49:
We don't have a free trial because the current Market return policy allows users enough time to determine if a product they purchase is right for them. As you experienced, the 24hr window was more than enough time for you do fall in love with Keypurr. When that policy changes we will make sure that there is a way for users to try Keypurr at no cost
24hrs isnt enough time to decide an app is for you imo
And if I actually hit each big key that I want (which is not hard to do at all), I ALWAYS get the word I want (ok, 'for' vs 'got' means I have to remember to hit the candidate strip when I want 'got' but that's accurate and no extra keystrokes - 'good' vs 'food' is the only other common word I've found that I need to do this). That is much better than my experience with SlideIT or Swype where I have to select from the list much more often (and I can't find the word I want on the list at all much more often).
I find that I'm getting in the habit of swiping up on the P in 'put', and haven't had any problems. The only trouble I've had is if there's a tiny bit of lag on my phone (which happens sometimes), it'll skip the first few letters. But that's on any keypad, and definitely not a Keypurr issue.
Already bought the app but I have to say voice input is a big missing feature to me and the only reason why I sometimes go back to using the stock HTC keyboard. Please support the power of the voice!
I've looked at the tutorial videos, and several pictures of keypurr, and i've got to say that I don't think i'd like the voice button on the keyboard. I haven't tried this app yet, but by first look the keyboard appears very minimalistic, which i like. if you keep adding buttons you'll have to reduce the size of the other buttons, which defeats the whole purpose of this keyboard!
If voice is going to be added I'd say add it on the symbols keyboard, or as a swype command. Or have an option to disable this. Because so far the minimal keyboard looks great!

New Features:
· Voice-to-text: you asked for it and we heard you.
· Directional keys and function keys in candidate bar: always accessible without using extra space.
· Additional function keys: 12 in total and all available for text
· “In-Place” text prediction: the first candidate appears in the text entry field, making typing more intuitive.
· Stronger text correction: Keypurr 2.0 is better able to identify and correct spelling mistakes without sacrificing the accuracy of predictive text.
YAYYYYY!!! I've been waiting for this. Voice to text is a must have so this could be it! I never felt like I had fat fingers before. In fact I have small hands but bigger keys would be soooo nice.
Heading to d/ld it now!!! Thanks so much! I'll give feedback after I have given it about a week or so.
I just haven't been able to find my purrrrfect keyboard yet. Hopefully this will be the one.
I just downloaded the trial, I've been waiting anxiously
So far, I love the keyboard. The only problem seems to be with me; I can't grasp the concept of the double-lettered keys. So I end up hitting the key right beside it instead of the key I'm supposed to hit. I will continue testing and report back in a couple days of experience :P
Not giving up yet! The biggest pros I see so far: Function keys, LOVE these; directional keys, LOVE this as well; and finally the delete whole last word key.
I still have to get used to the Flicking motion. So as Jazziette said, can you give us a little clue on how to properly flick? Because sometimes when trying to flick up on the enter key to get into symbols, I either end up hitting the enter key, or hitting the backspace.

Hi Ikanos!!!! Well, I'm so glad I stayed here and watched what was going on. I am SOLD on Keypurr now!
It's the best keyboard out there as far as I'm concerned. And the voice to text is awesome too. I just can't believe how easy this keyboard is to type on once you get it figured out.
And Keypurr is truly great in how they help the user!!!
Thanks for your encouragement that made me 'hang around'.
Just got 2.0. Fantastic!! Brilliant idea to make cursors available default. Not to dump on Swiftkey, but I think you have to hit three different buttons to reach the cursor screen....and you need the cursors much more because of all the mistakes you make trying to hit their tiny keyboard!!!
I've tried different voice inputs before and found them mostly frustrating and a net waste of time. I uninstalled Vlingo almost immediately. Haven't used this one much yet, but I must say, it nailed my first four sentences - and quickly too. If it keeps it up, I might actually use the thing.
Keep up the good work!!!!

Okay, finally got the flicking motion down :P I still occasionally mess up, but it's now a lot better than before.
As for the double keys, I think I'm finally starting to get the hang of this as well!
So far I really love this keyboard, but the only thing I find myself truly missing is the smiley key. I almost hardly ever use the enter key - only time I use the enter key is in k-9 mail. But the majority of my typing is for SMS, which is why I like my smileys! So that's the only thing that's missing for me
Other then that, I LOVE the function keys, I LOVE the direction arrows, basically this keyboard is amazing apart from missing the smileys!
Can I enable them somehow? I've checked settings but maybe I'm missing something. I enabled the smiley key in my SMS app, GOSMS.
this app seems really appealing to me but i have 2 little questions:
What exactly is the difference between the free version(if it still exists) and the paid version of the app?
When are the other languages due? Although my browsing and general internet usage would mostly do fine with english, I'm still german and I think my buddys would think I'm crazy if I would constantly text them in english
I always liked the concept but I was having trouble with the 'flicking' so I switched back to swype. I just saw that 2.0 was available so I thought I'd give it another shot. The 'flicking' on 2.0 seems a lot easier now. I'm not having any trouble getting to the other characters. I also like the addition of the cursor and function keys as well as the speech to text feature. Good Job.

Personally I think that the word 'flick' is what makes it difficult to figure out how to do. 'Slide' would be a more accurate description, IMO.
Keypurrtech,
I just wanted to add that I (we, hopefully) really appreciate your taking the time to answer questions on this forum. It's extremely helpful.
Thanks also for having a keypurr trial.
I'm still deciding whether to purchase. I've used Swype for a long time. So far, Swype feels faster and lower effort than keypurr, but I've only been a keypurr user for a day or two; I find that I need about a week or so to decide. In general, I'm finding keypurr to be more accurate (fewer unintended words) than Swype, so that is a good thing. Swype really shines in that you don't have to hit space; simply ending a swipe and starting a new one tells Swype to add a space as you are starting a new word.
The only issue I've run into with keypurr so far is in K-9 mail. If I have a contact named Johnson, and I type "john" with keypurr, then select Johnson's email address, everything seems to be fine. K-9 shows Johnson's email address followed by a comma. If I then type "george" to enter a second address, keypurr now displays "johngeorge," which, of course, is not what I want. If I type a space, keypurr displays Johnson's email address, followed by "John."
I just updated to version 2.0. Very nice! My impressions:
--On a first quick trial run, the voice to text seems to work well. I don't use this much but I may start doing so if it keeps performing well.
--Like everyone else, I like having the cursors available in a much more quickly usable way, and really like the easy availability of the function keys. Have there always been 12 function keys? If not, I really like this - the two that I knew of on the previous version were not enough for the various uses I wanted them for. Nice addition.
--I really, really like that the symbols, numbers, characters, etc, are a darker and much more readable shade of grey. I had a hard time seeing them in the previous version.
--Nice and practical addition of the "Delete previous word" flick option.
Very well done. I've settled on Keypurr for my standard keyboard (after even more time trials...I need a life), and the changes in 2.0 all make it that much more user-friendly.
I have noticed the same issue as jimdroid. However, I am glad to say that I am finding this keyboard easier and easier to be accurate with each day. I've been testing it daily, never switching back to my other keyboards, and will use it until the end of this week or so, and will most likely buy it if I can convince my girlfriend not to max out my credit card! (joking, lol)
But in seriousness, I will definitely buy this product. It's very well done. Thank you!
Am using the trial and liking. But I do get odd results sometime. For example I tried to start a sentence with the work "Als" and could not get it. What is the trick?
Hi I bought your great app and I love it more every time i use it. I was wondering if you will include some sort of option like a custom autotext dictionary, where typing a shortcut will automatically bring up your programmed word.
For example, if I put in the custom autotext dictionary "How r u" Keypurr will automatically put "How are you"
I'm not sure if this has been asked or addressed, but I've always wondered if this is an option available to will become available. By the way, great job on the 2.0 update!
Tried it today and like it - very easy with those big buttons, prediction is pretty good, like those flicks for fast number etc. input, it learns words well.
English-only is too much of a shortcoming though so I'll stick with another 3rd party keyboard.
Is there a way to change the word suggested? Drove me nuts trying to type "hate when that happens" because it defaults to "hare"... is hare seriously the more commonly used word? (And I say it drove me nuts because I tried it several times, figuring I must be doing something wrong. :P)
I was thinking of suggesting the same thing for a revision at some point. First, to be able to remove a word from the dictionary (I've already accidentally entered a word or two that now keeps popping up and I'd like to delete it). Second, some way to change the default choice for a particular key entry (like the abovementioned example of "hate" and "hare").
I also like the idea mentioned above, now that there are 12 function buttons, of having the option to have maybe the first two or three characters of the saved text string show in the cursor bar for each, instead of "F1", "F2", etc.

You can access custom dictionary in keypurr settings. Check there to remove the word! But yes, I agree about the hate/hare !

Sorry for the delay. Were really happy you like Keypurr sand we appreciate the suggestion. We are looking into your request, however our main goal right now is to ensure that what users actually type gets conveyed as accurately as possible. Unfortunately, while your idea is a good one, we can't see a way of implementing it effectively, consistently, and without detracting from the main goal I stated, in the near future. We will try to include the feature in a later release (possibly 3.x) but we can't make any guarantees.
Sorry, I hope you don't like Keypurr any less as a result of this.
Thanks for answering. I understand it's not something that can be done effectively and consistently, because your keyboard is run by using a different strategy. If you can implement it, great, but no way does it make me like Keypurr less. I was just curious, and thanks for continuing to be very supportive to the users. Keep up the great work.
Yes, you can access the user dictionary on most phones -not HTC devices but we're working on as workaround for that. We've also got some ideas about methods for allowing users to adjust word priorities. The issue with "hate" vs "hare" is noted and will be changed in the next release.
Thanks...I've got an HTC phone, so I'll look forward to the workaround at a later time. And thanks for looking into adjusting word priorities, that would be a nice addition.

I still don't really understand the function keys or how to 'save' a word I use frequently, etc. Can you please provide the link again with the instructions?
Thank you in advance. This is the only keyboard I am using now.
