Default Gingerbread Keyboard, NO root required

For those of us without the Gingerbread update:

Get the Gingerbread Keyboard on Any Android Phone, No Root Required

If you don't want to sign up for the forum they link to, the third comment down has the QR codes from someone hosting it on their own site. I downloaded from there, tested, can confirm that it works.

A lot of the difference isn't really noticeable unless you're aware of it. It has more accurate targeting for example (as in it's gonna give you the letter you hit even if you're not dead-on center of the key) and a better auto-correct. The main difference for me, though, is that you can use the numbers from the main keyboard by long-pressing the upper row of letters.

Thank you for the heads up. I've downloaded and installed it, I think it's miles better than the standard 2.2 keyboard =)

just installed this on the Desire and all seems to be working fine just had to find these instructions below from the link above

"For those wondering how to get this keyboard working once you've installed it, Go into Settings Language & keyboard. Select the check box next to Gingerbread keyboard. Then, long press in any text area and select Input method. You can quickly switch between keyboards - I have Swype, the stock Evo keyboard ("Touch Input"), the HTC IME keyboard, and the Gingerbread keyboard all available."

Installed on Milestone 1 with 2.2.1 ROM and it is not working properly. When it opens it is not scaled properly, the keys are veeeeery small.

Just installed on my desire, and it works great. I'll have to use it a bit more to decide whether it's better or not. Just need to get used to it

I love this keyboard!

Swype got screwed up when I installed 2.2 on my phone. This keyboard makes me not miss it much.

Great keyboard I'll give it ago for a few weeks. Key's seem smaller though!

I had to reboot to get pinch and zoom to work again

Is there ANY way that I can get the keyboard to disappear? I miss the button on the old keyboard that would allow me to hide the keyboard. Am I not realizing how to do the same thing on the Gingerbread keyboard?
