How do you save pictured downloaded in a Messaging thread on a Motorola Droid?

Longpress on the pic? Just a guess as I don't use a Moto device, but that's pretty much the standard method in every other messenger available on Android devices.

Is this with the stock Messaging app? It's not an IM app. Just wanted to clarify.
