Android ApplicationsAll the information you could ever want about Android Applications. Learn about apps and get help with them... all here! New apps can be found and announced in the Applications Announcements forum linked below.
This is Edward, developer of Car Locator. I just soft-launched my latest app and I wanted to tap this wonderful community to help me test it out and gather feedback before I start promoting it.
The app is called "Smarter Alarm". Basically, instead of waking up to a blaring sound in the morning, Smarter Alarm will read customizable information to you, like the morning's weather, stock prices, headline news, sports scores, your friends' birthdays and more. It's similar to Iron Man's "Jarvis" alarm clock.
I'll be adding more feeds in future updates, but I wanted to gauge interest before putting in the time =)
I'd really appreciate any bug reports, feature requests, and improvements you might have! If you can find any verifiable bugs, I'll happily reward you with a free copy of the full version of any of my other apps: "Car Locator", "Copy Paste It" and "Screenshot It".
Heres the market link: market://details?id=com.edwardkim.android.smarteralarm
Thanks!
p.s. The app is also entered in Verizon's VDC Power your app contest under the "information" category. Please vote for me! (poweryourappcontest.com/Protected/ApplicationListVote.aspx)

I really like the idea, but did come across a couple problems. I like that it uses your background, but my background is light and there's no way to change the default color. I also pressed the Hear Alarm and it just says "Updating Information. Please wait. Information for your alarm is being refreshed." How does it find your weather since you can't enter your location? If it' gps based I only turn that on when I need to use it. Also it won't log into Facebook and gives an error when I try. Promising, but for now I'll stick with alarmdroid. Good luck!

After I wake up I want nobody talking to me for the first half hour. Least of all a machine! First I need a shower, shave, teethbrush, big glass of freshly squeezed OJ, and a strong cup of coffee.
Then I'm ready for all comers.

Thanks for your feedback. It does use GPS to get your current location for weather. I'll add a feature where you can input your location manually and not have to use GPS.
I'll look into the facebook error.
I'll also have an option that does not use your desktop background.
Whoh, definitely needs to be some kind of volume control for the voice. I do not want something screaming at me like that when I wake up in the morning!
Oh, and I couldn't get the news feature to work on my Samsung Captivate (Unrooted 2.1) without having to force quit.
Edit: Not sure if it's just me, but my lockscreen doesn't show up while I have the alarm set...
Also doesn't show up on Advanced Task Killer. Just giving you the heads up. Hope I'm not coming across as too mean...

Just wanted to let you know that I've heard your feedback and have released an update! Here's what's in the update:
*Weather*
- Preference to speak temperature in Celsius
- Preference to manually enter your zip code instead of using GPS for reading local weather information
*News*
- UK news
*General*
- Preference to use a black background instead of your desktop wallpaper
- Control alarm volume using hard volume buttons

Hi, just tried it and I get stopped unexpectedly, force close.
That's on Samsung galaxy S i9000

This is me as well. I simply cannot absorb information in the morning. If you wake me up and tell me the house is on fire and I need to run for my life, it'll be about 30 mins before I wake up enough to process that information.
To the OP, I know it's off topic, but I love your Car Locator app. Awesome and amazing app. Can't say enough good things about it.
Force Closes when updating info. Clicked on "Hear Alarm" and it tried to update, then crashed.
Droid X. running latest version of O.S.
Sent a report.
Should add Jarvis as a voice option. :P (yes I know this would be next to impossible) hehe.
Should have an option to replace the lock screen with the info it gathers.
Should have an option to read the last 5 tweets or pm's from twitter.
should have an option to enter zipcode for weather and local news updates.
Should have a daily alarm, event alarm. etc. And these alarms should be separate. allowing you to have a daily alarm AND an event alarm. The daily alarm should have the option to include or exclude weekends or days off that you choose. (this is one that blackberry users are always squawking about. As the stock BB alarm doesn't take into account that most people have a day or two off per week. hehe)
