Default App to flash/root your phone?

Hi,

Does anyone know if there is an app on android market that flashes your phone for you? How about one that roots it? I'm have no idea if this is even possible, but it would sure be great, since there are a lot of non technical people out there who would really like to try all the new fancy roms around.

thanks

Rafa

Universal Androot will root with one click. Don't think it is in the market but you can find the apk with a quick google search.

As for flashing it is not that easy. Each brand uses different tools for that.

Thanks, guys. Androot doesn't work on the Galaxy S series yet though.

Everybody is talking about 'rooting' and 'flashing' their phones, and about installing 'ROMs'. What is that all about?
What is 'rooting' a phone? And why would I want to do it?

And what is a 'ROM'? And why would I want to install one?

Lots of great, phone specific info to be found here:

All Things Root - Android Forums

I spent about an hour yesterday studying up and was soon rooted and flashing away!

If it takes an hour to find an answer to only one of my 3 questions I think I'll pass, thank you.

doctorbabe was just trying to share all the great info that is available.
Rooting your phone will allow you to customize it to work in ways that the stock configuration won´t allow it. These changes may be just visual or performance related, such as overclocking your device or making your battery last longer.

I used UnRevoked to root my HTC Desire. I'd recommend it to anybody who owns a handset it's compatible with.

UA is okay, but unrEVOked (link) is even better and more painless. Just click the right phone (pictured) and download the "reflash_package.exe" file when prompted to do so.

Then follow the instructions in the Rooting FAQ section of whatever phone you're using (scroll down and find your phone here). Don't over-read, most threads about it just say basically the same thing. Just pay attention to the threads w/ stickies right on top of the forums.
