Default Gmail push
How do I check gmail manually? I do not require or desire push mail. I have been into settings - accounts & sync - gmail sync is off.

Yet as soon as I connect to wifi loads of mail comes flooding in. I want to check it when I want to, not when the San Francisco (ZTE Blade) says so!

are you using the Mail app or the Gmail app? If you are using the gmail app, and you turned off it's sync, it should only get mail when you open the app.
