There's actually alot of controversy in the android community on the use of task killers.
Android self closes apps without the use of a task killer and there's talk that a task killer can be harmful.
So if you're still getting bad battery life or even worst then before, try not using a task killer for a week or two. Or even if you're phone seems slow and apps force close alot more then they used to, it might have been caused by the use of a task killer.
So again, try not using one for awhile, see if there's any difference.
Also, android has it's own manual app killer built in, so you can go and see/stop apps.
If you press menu>settings>applicatons>manage you can see all your running apps. Every once and awhile an app can go rogue and continue to run in the background even if you're not using it, that's when you want to kill it.
Personally, I've never used a task killer, or even had to use the one within android.
