Right now I tether wirelessly to my desktop with Barnacle. I have many problems with my PC not recognizing the broadcast. Are there any tethering apps that use an Infrastructure connection as opposed to Ad Hoc so my PC will automatically remember and reconnect to the tether? Or is there any way I can get my PC to automatically connect to Barnacle's ad hoc when I enable it?
I've tried Wireless Tether from Google, but it causes 3G to drop in and out repeatedly on my Droid X.

You might want to try PDAnet. Works great for me. Although of course limited to USB1's 400Kb/s, as any tethering app is. But I can even run Youtube and other videos fullscreen on it (warning: you approach the limits of 'fair use' sooner than you think). But for some reason it seems PDAnet is not free for users in the US and Canada...?
