Here are my recommendations/most used apps.
1) Bar Control

Description: Browse the contents of your SD card, view images, backup and restore apps. Delete files, reads zip and tgz files. Nice little app, works well.
Price: Free until 1/31/10 (end of free beta) -- unknown price after
Description: Scans all your rewards cards into your phone and saves them for you to use at the store. Great app. Can be touch and go a bit when working with a frustrated cashier
Installed Screebl at 11:30 and did a bit of configuration. Unplugged my phone and went about my day. At 7 PM, I had 5% battery remaining. Spare parts reports that Screebl had been using the CPU and the sensor for 7 and a half hours. I don't think I'll leave it enabled.

You must've had the configuration so that it had your screen on the whole time. Check the inactivity setting as well as the orientation settings.
