I just received a Cr-48 notebook from Google and I'm not sure how to tether it without rooting. I have an original Motorola Droid and usually use PDA Net to tether to my PC, but that requires the installation of a program which can't be installed on Chrome OS. Does anybody know how I can tether my Cr-48 without rooting or purchasing the tethering package from Verizon?

Just Root, really easy and there really isn't much you can mess up. The Cr-48 has several limitations due to Chrome OS. For example I can't run Google's app inventor on mine because it requires downloading software.

Anyways... I always root my phones and once I do that I have tethered my Cr-48 with no problems using both my Droid X and now my Nexus S

If I root my phone, will it void my warranty?

Yes, it would void the warranty but if done correctly, you can unroot.

Few problems with tethering on cr-48.... first, I can't get anything to work through the USB port. Second, as you mentioned... if it is not an app it won't run.

I have the G2 which can act as a hotspot. My cr-48 will connect just fine in this way. Much faster then the Verizon 3G and lets face it... 100MB does not go very far.

I haven't used the Verizon internet for mine yet. How does that work? Just turn it on and connect, or do I need a Verizon account?
