Default Skymap Upside-down

Folks,
This is my first post. I'm using an unlocked G1 in China, and of course Skymap was one of the first apps I downloaded. It looks great, but I've got a strange problem: everything seems to be upside down. In other words, the sun is marked as being well below the horizon when it's actually high in the sky, and vice versa.
I tried posting a comment on the official skymap blog, but they haven't moderated any posts since May. I've also reinstalled, and tried setting the location by every different possible way, but the problem persists.
All I can think of is that it was only properly programmed for the western hemisphere.
Has anyone had this problem? Anyone using it in Asia?

Default Sky Map upside down?

Hi,
I'm one of the Sky Map developers. I'm really surprised about this - it should work perfectly well in Asia. Are you sure it's getting your location correctly? As a check, trying entering your location manually through the settings.

If you continue to have problems use your G1 to send a message to Sky Map's developers where it will get properly dealt with.

Thanks,

John

John,
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Now I feel kind of silly. After tinkering around, I realized it was set to the wrong time zone. Problem solved.

On a side note, I checked some Chinese android forums for this issue. Android has a small, dedicated following here, probably mostly from the old palm crowd. There were a bunch of folks who liked the customizability but hated the poor localization efforts palm made. They rave about the program, but want a Chinese version. I think some just want Chinese menus, but others seem to want the Chinese constellations (completely different from western ones). I bet there would be plenty of Chinese armchair programmers who would help out just for the recognition.

Hi,
Ah! I've done that myself many times...especially when I haven't got a SIM in the phone (so it doesn't pick up the time zone automatically).

Regarding the localization: I completely agree. I'm sorry we haven't done it yet - as you know this is a 'part time' project at Google so we have many more ideas than we have time to implement them, but I promise it's very high on my list of features. Chinese constellations would certainly be very cool.

Actually I get to work on it when I want - noone counts hours here! I'll admit I often worked on it at night, but hey...it's a star map...how else would you do it?
