When a call is coming in, I'd like an option to ignore the call and respond to the caller with an SMS.
I realize I can accomplish this with several button pushes, but if there was a button right there on the ringing screen (or pressing 'menu' while the phone is ringing) would be several steps easier. My Palm Treo had this option, and I think the HTC includes this option in the phone app in Sense.
Ok, I do not know about the rest of you, but I am frankly tired of the "Unidentified" calls and then of course the calls that you do not want to accept, such as old girlfriends etc and they continue to contact you. Most cell phones do not have the option to block a number from contacting you. I would love the ability to block certain numbers, unidentified or anonymous numbers and only take the calls I desire to take!
There is an option when you save a contact to send that contact's call directly to voicemail.
My ideal app would be one where you can tether your phone to your desktop and run the operating system/browser on your computer.

I'm 99.9999% sure one of the Android Developer Challenge Winners had a feature that does this in their application. It was a general family protection/safety app and seemed like it covered all the bases for parents.
But remember, to know where your kids are they'll have to be carrying an Android Phone too... on them.
Or the government can just plant a chip in the kids head at birth. What it's just a thought? LMAO
I really love my HTC hero. I have moved from blackberry so I was sceptical yo say the least.
There is however a couple of features I would like to see here.
On my bb I could look at my call log, scroll to a number and select the menu key, from where I could see really quickly the details of when I was called made a call.
I could also see the time and date of the calls.
I have tried a couple of the 3rd party apps for this but none are quite as simple as my bb.

Celeb comparison app
Hi all,
You know this could be alot of fun if someone would develop an app that when you take a photo of your face it could search a preloaded data base and give you a pic of the celeb that most looks like you.
Currently, on my HTC Hero, the screen lock is activated immediately upon pressing the power button to switch off the screen. I wish for an app that allows me to specify the length of time before which the screen lock does not activate; the screen lock only activates once the specified amount of time has elapsed.
i don't know if there is an app that is a video editing app if there was one that you could take all your videos and make a big video but cuting and pasting the video clip together. and make a GOOD video with fx!!!!!
how about an app to change led color based on event. Right now, i only get 3 colors; red for low batt., blue for an im (hi aim allows the led color change) and green for everything else. I'd like for gtalk to have a different color led, gvoice, sms and mail to all have different colors...
not sure if its been said yet, but i know the iphone has an app for credit cards where you can charge a credit card through your phone. would be great for a small business man like myself.
One App I would LOVE to see is a scale app. It wouldnt have to weigh much just like grams. I need it for weighing stamps and envelopes. PM if you think this could be done.

An app to make the phone listen to garage remote. I know that cars can talk to remotes, my Ford truck has a thing where it can learn three remotes and then they're on visor buttons. Wondering if Android phones could be made to do that?
And hey, while we're at it, how about a really universal universal remote... I know I have my phone with me all the time but keep losing other devices, what if the phone could be garage opener, tv and cable remote, wireless light turner-offer, window a/c controller, as well as the remote pc stuff that's already there like being a mouse. Seems it would need the capability to learn from other devices like one of those programmable tv remotes, and then widget makers to come up with a control panel for each class of device.
Being a car remote seems like it would be more complicated because of security, but that would be really handy too (needs a solution other than expensive Viper).
.. and an 'I've fallen and can't get up' thingy for Grandma too...
and oh by the way, I would really really like a stylus that works on these touchscreens like Hero has
If there were a way to mod the Google Goggles app, I would make an extension to allow for daily treasure hunts. What I mean is that everyday the app would have a list of things to look for everyday. Today you would be required to find an Elmo doll, a Barbie and maybe a firetruck toy. You would receive points for each item you found, and would get more points as the items changed every few days. Also, if that was possible, I would imagine that a Pokedex app is also possible to make. This would require users to scan pokemon to add them to their pokedex, just like in the show. Unfortunately, I've never made an app, but if someone wanted to give this a try go for it! All I ask is that you tell me, or at least give credit where credit is due.
Hey i'm just throwing another idea out there. How about a program that records your voice and writes down what you say?? Maybe as a text or in an email while your are driving(for those who would rather NOT talk to the person)I figured maybe it can have a dictionary stored which includes pronunciations with every word so I'm wondering if this is feasible? I'm sure it will run into problems with some wprds that aren't in the dictionary and for some with a accent...Maybe take it a step further and have it translate what you say into another language?! I'm sure that would be easy once the app had what you said written. Again I'll note this might already be in production or it might be years away from being a possibility. What do you think?
Search for credit card and a few come up. I don't know the details of their workings.

I would like to find a daily diary app that has a search and tally to tell me how many times I did something this week or how many times I did that this year.
I am contractor and often need to work hourly and I see many clients in one day. I would be nice to keep track of how many hours I have at the end of a job. Kind of like a mobile quicken.

There are quite a few "timecard" apps on the market, but I havent tried any of them.
Edit: if you try some please post back here and let us all know what you think

If the app doesnt already exist - I would like an app that allows me to set up profiles for my calendar. So if I have an appt from 1-3, the phone will automatically go into to silent mode or vibrate mode without me telling it to. Then at 3 pm, the phone returns to normal settings.
This would be HUGE ( for me anyway )
I have written this app -
It also:
-Lets you select which calendars to monitor, including by free/busy time.
-Whether to vibrate or be silent
-Send a quick SMS reply to folks that call you when you are in a meeting
All this in a convenient widget.
Please see "Vibrate During Meetings" in the Market.
Thanks!
Mike

Airline Pilot logbook app for Android OS. Desperately waiting...................
Send me an email at support@appventive.com detailing what you need and I'll see what I can do. I'm a private pilot, but not familiar with what an Airline pilot would need.

Yea you are looking for the Free program called "Locale" it lets you set up situations by time, location (including GPS) & Date and you configure the setting of the situation. works fantastic.
A couple of my situations:
When I get to work the ringer turns off and the phone will vibrate. I set up the court situation so that the ringer and vibration turn off so, anytime I am in that GPS location this will take place on my phone.
I love the idea of Visual Voicemail, but I don't want to pay a stupid monthly fee to Verizon to enable it on my new Droid.
Why doesn't someone come up with an app that replicates this?
1) Give the app your voicemail passcode.
2) When you have a new voicemail (do the apps have access to this info? If not, call every x minutes to poll), call the voicemail automatically, record/download the messages
3) Voilą! Display messages as visual voicemail
4) Occasionally sync back up to delete messages that user has deleted from Visual Voicemail
I'd pay $5 for this.
Has anyone already done anything like this, maybe?
Just wanted to let you know there is something very similar to this "Free Christmas List" and "Christmas List" Free version has ads and no password protection. Normal Version doesn't have ads and has a password screen.

is call forwarding free through verizon? you could have unanswered calls forwarded to a google voice number, and then get the google voice app on your phone.

I totally forgot about this. Yes, it is possible to send your voice mails to your google voice number. It won't be as simple as the Visual Voicemail app (someone should STILL come up with that free version!), but it will probably do.

If you sign up for the version of google voice that works with your mobil number, it does work wonderfully as a visual voice mail. I have it and love it. Also gives you a text trancsript of the voicmail message (not always completely accurate, but you know if you want to listen to it or not).
Otherwise, there is an app called phone fusion that works quite well. Once I got my google voice invite I uninstalled but it worked great, just figured the more google stuff i had on my google phone the better.

Now for the reason I came into this thread. It's been posted elseware, but constant reminders are needed for an app this critical to the survival of mankind. Where in the Heck (that's right, a capital "H", I do mean business) is an atari 2600 emulator?!?!???!??
If I had the time & talent (I have niether) I would have made three already, I can't believe there are gamegear emulators in existence, but nobody has yet done the 2600.
I'm thinkin' we need a baseball app. Something where you hit a funny looking apple through a multi colored window. In sort of a home run derby sort of fasion...maybe this is the wrong place for that though...

Try Missed Call. I use it. Some of the native apps won't let you change their notification methods/colors, and those you'll have to work around.
With Missed Call, I have different color LED notifications for txts, emails, and voicemsgs.
Missed Call will let you change the notification for *some* apps, as long as you disable the notification *within* that app. For example, I get a fast blue led for txts, because I disabled notifications in Handcent.

When i got my google voice invite, I got the choice of using google voice with my current mobile number or getting a brand new google voice number. Each had different advantages, it was hard to pick because I wanted the free texting that you get with the new gv number, but I'm not in a position to hassle all of my contacts with texting me at a new number. So I went with using with my existing number.
If you choose it with your existing number, it works as a visual voicemail and online hub. I figure it is only a matter of time before google starts offering free texting with this package as well, so that is what I took.
As I said before, phone fusion is a visual voicemail app that works very well. My only annoyance with it is that it flags you with the app itself, it also sends you a text that you got a new vm, and i think an email too, i hate redundancy, with google you can shut all that off.
