Default everything with voice

A voice daemon, that should wake up on hearing a password phrase from user, and start taking voice command. Right now, to do voice search or voice call, you need to touch the phone and do couple of browsing to reach to the app. But its inconvenient/illegal while driving. I would like to phone to understand voice commands and invoke tasks accordingly.

For example

I speak: "HELLO ANDROID" and the phone wakes up to take voice commands
I speak: "CALL XYZ" and it dials the number form addressbook
I speak: "SPEAKER ON" and it turns on the speaker.

Later on: I should be able able to end the call by just touching the screen and then voice recognition should resume again. ( voice recognition should be stopped while you are in call of course )

Handcent SMS has this option, and there's Holla which you could use for more than texting. The 2.1 update should have these options as well.

The way I see it working - you photograph an item and name it, then fill in details such as price, when and where bought, replacement value, etc. Possibly add additional images and/or pdf files of receipts, etc.

This can then give you a running total of the house contents for insurance, plus a very easy way to work out what may be missing in the event of break-ins, etc.

Even better if it sync'd everything to "the cloud" somewhere, but okay if it just stayed on the SD card.
This, combined with Google Goggles in order to fill in the information would be perfect. No typing, just take a pic, then select the right info from the search...

Default PGP/GnuPG for GMail on Android?

I've been looking for a PGP/GnuPG solution for GMail on my Droid, but I have only ran into walls. Public/Private key encryption and signing would be an invaluable tool, but it doesn't look like any developers are doing any serious work on it.

Default firefighter calender

There is an app available fore Iphones that is great for people who work a shift schedule, or just tracking vacation days. It would be great to have an app that would perform this function for android. What I would like is a calender that allows you to define your schedule, for example 1 on 2 off, and make days that you work highlighted one color.

My Crackberry calender allowed you to repeat an event as much as needed, which allowed me to put in my shift every third day. I can't beleive I can't do the same with my Hero calender.

Please advise me if I am wrong.

Well, kind of...

I haven't tried it yet on my Hero, but... if you go to your Google calendar enter your first shift, select "Repeats" > Daily > every 3 days you will get your shift schedule and it will link to your phone. If you have a Kelly Day that makes it a little more difficult, but for the standard 24-48 it works fine. Also, make sure you check the "All Day" box - it will black out that date. I know you will be working into the next morning (if your shift was anything like mine!) but the important thing for you (I would think) is that you keep track of the DATE you are on duty. I'll try it on my Hero after I get away from my desk for a few minutes.

Good luck, and I hope this is what you were looking for,

I agree with this. Windows XP Pro, MS Outlook 2007 and Google Calendar Sync works a treat. Shame they can't/won't do the same thing with Contacts.

it would be nice if I could do the same thing on my calender which is on the phone already. it will only let me do it daily, weekly, monthly or yearly.

Isn't this calender a google calender?

Eh, doesn't work that way on my Droid, unless I'm doing something wrong. Under repetition, it gives you daily, or just weekdays. I don't know if 2.1 will address Google Calendar (for Droid and N1 users), but a shift schedule app would be great.

How about a recording scheduler for Tivo? Just like they have for Blackberry? A very simple app but allows you to schedule recording of a show from anywhere.

I am looking for an app. that will allow me to add a few notes to a log for EACH completed call.

Here is what I need -(and since my requirements are driven by the IRS' need to have a log of these data elements, I'm SURE I'm not alone in this requirement):

Once the call is complete, I'd like to add the following to the Call Log record:
- Contact Name (if not already captured from my contact list)
- Call Purpose

That is Really the only data elements that are not captured in the call log that the IRS is requiring me to log.

They want: Date/Time; Contact Name; and Call Purpose

If when the call was completed, this Call Log app could be invoked (maybe by something like the app "Not Call Log") and ask me to select from a few customizable options from a list and then finish and return to the phone app or the home screen, etc.

For Example, I have narrowed my list to the following (and it REALLY DOES cover EVERY situation, for me)

Call Purpose:
IR = Information Request
IU = Information Update
TS = Technical Support
VM = Check Voice Mail
WN = Wrong Number

Then, of course, I need to be able to save and print the log for a specific date range to store with my printed copy of my phone bill incase the IRS ever needs to audit me and see if my phone is really being used for "Business" purposes.

I hope you can help or pass my request on to someone who may be able to.

My phone: HTC Hero

THANK YOU in advance.

I think a cool application would be when you dial a phone number it would suggest what the phone number belongs to and then you could easily add it to your phone, by clicking an add contact button.

App Idea: Clean Your Screen App

This application would automatically pop up a screen at selectable times. The screen would be an image of what bacteria looks like in a cultured disk. One would have to wipe the screen with a cloth and the bacteria seams to wipe off. If the bacteria isn't wiped off, then the phone isn't able to be used.

This would encourage you to clean your screen!

My LED blinks green when I get an email. Handcent blinks my LED blue when I get a text message. I would love an app that would let them both blink to signify when I have both types of messages...ie: blue, green, blue, green, etc.

Security app that would require a password to open your apps. I would want it to be something to were I could select which apps require protection and which ones don't. This way I could protect information on my phone without having to always go throught the pattern lock screen.

I would LOVE to have an app that can download web pages to your SD card and view them offline because if you're like me, you can't afford the data plan.

On a separate note, that's actually a very nice app! However related to my post, the music widget access on the front is essentially the same as what I had tried with Lock 2.0. It too had a music adjustor on the front lock screen. My main purpose in the camera button changing the song forward is that that way it could also be EYES FREE . But thanks for the suggestion nonetheless, that's a sweet looking app.

I seriously want to see an immersive second life client, one that takes use of the hardware of the Droid and provide basic movement flight, and view. Linden labs has made the source code open to developers.

I would love to see some apps merged:
Quick Settings + Advanced Task Killer
Astrid + Note Everything
Key Ring + Assistant Free
Quick Settings + Spare Parts
Where + ShopSavvy
Handcent to thread emails
Listen + NewsRob + NPR
Seesmic + Facebook (like the desktop app)
Camera Zoom FX + Barcode Scanner
Assistant Free + Loot

That's just a few, but they are the ones I'd be most interested in

Default a few of my fav ipod touch apps

I used to have an ipod touch until i gave it to my dad when i got the droid eris. A few apps that I liked on the ipod touch and would like to see on the droid is

Ibeer. Its an app where when u go to it u get to select wut type of beer u want and then the screen fills up wit that type of beer as if u filled a glass with beer. and then as u tilt the phone it looks like u r drinking the beer cause the beer moves as the phone moves.

Mafia wars. know they already have a mafia app on the droid but I'd like to see the myspace mafia app on the droid. On the ipod touch theres a mafia wars app where u can log into your myspace account when u open the app and use it on the droid. and theres also another mafia wars app on facebook which is actually called "mafia wars" and I'd like to see that app also.

Google earth. I heard this will b coming out soon and this is another app i want.

beerpong. I think theres a beer pong app already on the droid but most of the comments say that it doesnt work so i want a working beer pong app.

virtual pool. It doesnt have to b the same as the virtual pool on the ipod touch but just any billiards app.

tap tap revenge. Its exactly like guitar hero but on the droid and wit 3 fingers.

I would like to see an app that allows you to create character avatars for your contact photos. Think of the Mii characters you create with the Wii. Same concept... It would be fun to make a character of your self and send it too your friends. AHH if only I were a developer....

I have several ideas for apps including a very unique game idea that if well-made would surely be a hit but here are a couple other ideas that may already be available, I haven't looked around too hard.

1. A program that facilitates and creates a new passtime similar to geo-caching. Only you don't find hidden packages, you take pictures of objects at particular GPS locations. For instance, a user would take a picture of the statue of Alcatraz as viewed from the end of Fisherman's Warf's Pier 39 in San Francisco and submit it as a "photocache" or some other word we come up with. People with the program can search around them and they would see the GPS coordinates of where the photo was taken and the photo itself. They would then have to go to the location and snap the same picture (or very similar). An algorithm would have to be written to compare the photo and it would have the be smart enough to recognize the subject despite different lighting conditions, birds, boats, or other stuff that may be in one picture but not the next. The person searching for the photo can overlay a semi-transparent version of the original picture on their screen while looking to take the picture to get it lined up. Once a match is made, the person gets a point in the online database where you can go to check your score, compare to your friends, find the latest uploaded "photocaches" or whatever. Of course several things would still need to be worked out but I think it might be a fun game that lots of people would participate in.

2. This one is surely already made but if it isn't I thnk it could be very popular. A gas-mileage tracker. You fill out an easy form on the phone every time you fill up that includes volume of fuel, miles driven since last fill-up, cost, and whatever else you want. It could use GPS to recognize the gas station you're using. It then compiles the data in a database you can browse to find trends, etc.

EARTHCACHE.ORG

Now what you could do for an android app is combine with with the gps so you go somewhere then open the earthcache app and tell it to direct you to places within x miles of your current location. Because the search on earthcache.org is too vague, only goes to the state level. I'm not going to run halfway across the state but if I'm already in an area for somehting else it would be nice to see the places nearby.

I'm not going to run halfway across the state but if I'm already in an area for somehting else it would be nice to see the places nearby.
Thats an interesting site, though it seems like the point is just to go to the earthcaches. My concept is more geared to finding a particular picture (including the subject and angle) that can span from historical sites or buildings as I mentioned as an example earlier to a particular tree, mailbox or rock. Anything that should remain stationary for the forseeable future, and hopefully interesting. You can then walk, hike, drive to the site using GPS, then once there, look for the subject and try to find the right angle to capture it.

another idea:

sweater puppies

a photo-realistic view of a woman from about the shoulders down to the mid-abdomen on a landscape screen. you can choose whether she's in a sweater, tube top, tank top, bra, whatever. as you move the phone, the breasts react with realistic physics. You give it a quick nudge down, the breasts become weightless and rise up briefly before falling down and bouncing into place. tilt the screen right and suddenly gravity pulls them that direction. lay the phone on it's back and they flatten out. getting the picture? it would be a winner.

another one:

sobriety test:

you perform a variety of tasks on the program to set a baseline. Then when you're out drinking, you perform the tasks again to determine your sobriety. It compares your speed to baseline and calculates sobriety. Rates you on a scale and says something funny about your current state, etc. Purely for fun, of course it would come with a don't drink and drive warning, blah blah.

Do you have a phone number at your place of employment you can call to see whether your work is on a 2-hr delay, cancelled or whatever due to inclement weather? I do? The line has a recorded message, "Today blah blah place is open for normal business hours" every day except for when there is a change in status. Wouldn't it be nice if there was an app that would call that number every morning before you woke up to check the message? If it was the same as always, it doesn't do anything. If it's changed though, it records the message for you and plays it for you when you wake up. "Oh, work is cancelled today? Good thing I didn't start getting ready when I can just lay down and go back to sleep!"

Are you a nerd and need all the help you can get to gain the attention of that woman at the bar? Well with the "Picture with a celebrity app" you get just the help you need. All you need to do is take a picture of yourself against a plain white background and enter it into the program. Then approach target and start conversation. If TVs are in bar, make a comment about someone on one of the teams playing. "Wow, great pass! You know, Peyton and I are actually good friends." "Oh really?!" hot girl replies. "Oh yeah, we go to BW3s every Tuesday!" says you. Then pull out the phone, bring up the "Pictures with a celebrity app" and choose from our database of 1000s of celebrities. The program will superimpose you on a picture of your chosen celebrity and suddenly your quarry is putty in your hands.

is there a magic 8 ball app? Gotta be, right? Turn the phone over and back, and the 8-ball will answer your most pressing questions. (as long as they have yes or no answers!)

How about a chat with/text a random person app? You download the app then fill out a short questionaire (age, sex, interests...). Then when you're bored and/or drunk, you choose to call/text a random person. The program asks you whether you prefer and male or female, age category, particular interest of the random person then calls/texts another person with the app open who meets the criteria. Now you can spend the night talking to a 20-something female who loves stanley kubrick as much as you do.

only problem is there is only going to be about 1 female signed on per 20 dudes. oh well...

suck at dancing?? I know I do!! You need the "Dance Like a Champ" app! Just open the app and it analyzes whatever song is playing and immediately shows you a step by step dance move appropriate for the song. Now you can get out on the dance floor and show them how it's done!

Now for an app every insecure teenie bopper girl will love. Simply take a picture of yourself with the "Am I Hot?" app and it will compare you against the ideal, then give you the advise you need to be hott! "Oh I'm sorry.. Lydia... your hips are too wide, your boobs too small, and your nose twists to the right. Recommended: Liposuction, boob job, and nose job. Have a nice day!"

Has anyone suggested a Usenet Newsgroup Reader? Something that can be set do download all new headers and messages so I can read them while away from WiFi? And post replies via 3G or queue them till on WiFi again?

Midnight write:

An app with special subdued lighting that opens anytime you grab the phone at night. It opens a notepad where you can document your latest dream or invention without blinding you with a photon shotgun blast to the retinas. I don't know how many million-dollar ideas I've had at night, but didn't write down, and couldn't remember the next morning. If I'd had this app, I wouldn't have to be trying to come up with dumb apps, I could be chillin on my own private island staffed by topless supermodels. Oh, it would also be good for those trying to keep a dream log in order to lucid dream.

OMG bad beer sucks. Take that corona away from here before I kenpo your ass! Yeah, sur e there are apps to search for nearby restaurants based on the michelin rating or some crap, but how about by beer selection? Wouldn't it be nice to have an app that searches a user-updated database on the beer selection of nearby establishments? God, I would kill for a celebration ale right now, I wonder if there are any places nearby that serve it? Let me pull up my handy "Beer Steer" app and find the nearest place with it. Oh wow, theres a bar 1.2 miles away with it and it even gave me the driving directions. Awesome!

I recently got married and we filled out our gift registry at bed bath and beyond by taking around a little hand-held scanner and scanning the items we wanted. How about scanning the barcodes of items you want with the phones camera and it creates a list for you to give you anyone crazy enough to want to buy you presents. They can buy them online or wherever, they aren;t limited to the store you scanned them at. Perfect for birthdays, christmas, weddings, anniversaries or whatever. Because I'll always see something I want, and forget completely about it by the time I'm writing a christmas list.

How about a survival guide app? It would explain everything you need to know in a survival situation including how to build a fire, build basic shelter, find food and edible plants, set traps, and most importantly, create a phone charger out of coconuts and sticks.

OK, this isn't an app but an invention I thought up that is going to make someone rich. I often find myself in unfamiliar environments in need of a bathroom, but without one in sight. In comes the WeeAway. It's a condom catheter that connects to a tube that terminates at ground level. You run it down a pant leg and strap it to an ankle. It goes past your shoe and points down level with the ground on the inside of your foot. Simply stand on a drain, gutter, hole or whatever and let her flow. Great for concerts, parades, rallies or wherever else your hobbies take you away from bathrooms.

Is there an app to light the led flash of some cameraphones for use as a temporary flashlight? Might be handy!

How about a swingers app? Registered swingers show up on a map of your area, so when you and the missus are out on the town, you can see whether there are other swingers in the same bar/club. If so it allows you to text them through an anonymous number (like craigslist emails) to see if they're interested. Yeah baby!

As senility closes in on older folk, many lose track of their bathroom accomplishments, and wonder whether their bowels have been properly exercised that day. Some even pinch pieces off bar soap and shove it where the sun don't shine in order to speed things along. In comes BowelBuddy, the app aimed specifically at the regularity-worried elderly. Simply touch the button to log each time you drop a deuce placing a smiling pile on the calendar entry for the current day. It will even let you record whether the kids were solid or loose when you dropped them off at the pool. No more worrying about stool production is necessary, with BowelBuddy, you'll know exactly where you stand.
