How about a forum client app (like Tapatalk) that works for Androidforums?

AndroidForums is in the process of alpha testing its own application by the staffs and premium members. You can find the info or if you have questions about the app, post it here: http://androidforums.com/suggestion-box-feedback/41162-why-arent-we-tapatalk-yet-3.html#post426422

And the app is great so far. It contains all of AF and Phandroid contents.

Hey Guys,

I would like an App that switched off data transfer/roaming when I get home and switched on wifi, then vice versa when I go out.

;-)

I'm not sure about this so i'll just post my idea anyways... Being a gamer me i'd die for MMORPG then out came Pocket Legends then i went bonkers.... XD then i was thinking (if this is possible or not) to make a mmorpg that can be played BOTH on the computer (without having to dl would be best) and also on the phone?? just wondering if this is probable?

Tasker.

Everyone should own a copy of Tasker. If you want any settings to change automatically Tasker can do that for you based on a huge variety of triggers that Tasker lets you choose from!

I am in no way affiliated with Tasker. All I am is a very pleased Tasker customer that never has to worry about changing my settings in plan-able every day situations. Because Tasker does it for me!

Tasker can even read your texts out loud to you when you get in your car! And then Tasker can even send a reply message stating that you are driving and cannot respond.

Tasker is the greatest convenience that an android phone can have. And though it is a bit rough to figure out at first, Tasker's potential is HUGE!

Tasker.

Thanks for that.

I discovered Locale and added lots of plug-ins, seems to be working so far.

Do you think Tasker is better than Locale?

If you're creative enough, you can program your phone to do almost ANYTHNG with Tasker. Learning curve is a big fat pain though.

Some good threads you can read:

My app idea is the ability to take before and after shots with the camera using a ghost image of the before shot to match up the after shot exactly. Simple idea but I havent found it yet!

Sorry, didn't realize there was a thread for this already....

I am looking for an app that would help me as a musician get better organization of my warmup and practice routines. Ideally, it would function as a basic shopping list but would also allow the incorporation of audio files and .pdf's in order to show staff music and play either examples or other tools (such as a monotone drooooooone).

I think this would be easily adaptable as either a fitness app (in order to gauge performance and what helped the most) or a basic scheduler that also is more powerful than a simple calendar. Think if you went to the gym, opened up the app, had a set list of exercises with a video of correct form, and could easily notate how many reps you did! You could even change the order of the activities, or just keep it general as in "You selected Arms and Legs today: here are some suggested exercises"

I only use the fitness analogy because I think more people go to the gym than they do play a musical instrument. :-D

So you know where I'm coming from: I am a student of classical music performance at a major conservatory who has made a hobby of android/general computing. Unfortunately, I have not developed my programming to the point where I could realize my ideas, so I come to you guys for some guidance.

If there's anything that piques your interests, please PM me so we can talk about it.

And a Happy Thanksgiving to you all! (even the non-Americans!)

Upstairs in my son's bedroom is an analogue baby monitor. It transmits its signal on the same freq as wifi.

I'd like an app that would allow me to see the feed from the baby monitor on my Desire HD.

How about something as simple as a Widget for gTalk? Ya know, something that would display your unread messages, unread messages count and maybe quick respond? This seems like a no brainer for me and I am SHOCKED that there is nothing on the market. There are countless apps like this for SMS, but none for gTalk which I believe is fairly popular in itself.

Would definitely pay for something like this because gTalk is, by far and away, my main form of text communication.

You have an excellent imagination. This idea is near to something that I'm interested in designing. I was looking for an app to allow me to setup channel viewing sets and record them automatically by phone. My TVs are in a different room from the cable entry point and the remotes don't have feedback to tell you what the result is when you are in a different room.

Another idea came to me about having GPS tracking allow two people on the phone display the routes to each other and to control a tracking vehicle's steering. Anyone have any actual data on GPS accuracy? There is a possible commercial use here. So, if you are interested, give me a call. I'm a programmer with 30 years of experience in computer application design. Thanks ahead of time for those who want to try this out. Oh, by the way, where can I get inexpensive unlocked smartphones for testing?

IP Cam Viewer Lite - Android app on AppBrain

I use it to connect to my Trendnet cameras in my house. Works awesome.

Default IVR keypad like 2dial on PalmOS

On my PalmOS I used this application called "2dial" that was awesome!

So when I called into my AT&T/Cingular voice mail, the application knew this since it knew what number I just dialed (my own in this case), and would then present a screen with all of the commands like 'play', 'ff', 'delete', etc instead of the numerical equivalents. It makes it really easy to use IVR systems like banks or whatever...

2dial - Utilities Palm OS Apps

Anyone know of something like that? I searched for "IVR" and only saw 3 japanese entries: ivr - Search Android Apps on AppBrain

Default Private contacts, calendar, notes, tasks like PalmOS

The lack of built in "private" contacts, calendar events, notes and tasks is really sad to me. I see some 3rd party "hacks" but they are all cumbersome to use or don't integrate well with the Android.

On PalmOS, this was at the OS level. There was no way around it. You could mark a contact as "private" and had the option to completely remove it from lists or mask it out. Selecting it required your password. Then they would re-hide as soon as you left that thing.

CompanionLink's DejaOffice (Android Sync Software - Sync contacts, calendar, tasks and notes -- CompanionLink Software) tries to mimic this, but what good is it if you can bypass it by loading the contacts in some other contact viewer (like the default one!) Not to mention it looks like crap and requires you to "Read Android Data" to sync DejaContacts with your real contacts. The whole process is stupid considering it's almost 2011 ! PalmOS has had Outlook sync and private events for nearly 20 years. How did Google miss this?

I wish Google would step up their privacy efforts and implement something like this natively.

Great thread....

I'm not sure if it's been suggested already but how about an app that simply launches the camera in front facing mode...

I've been looking for something that will allow me to use the front facing camera without having to navigate the menus within the camera...

Just my $0.02...

Default Browsix: browse your phone from your laptop

We just released a free app called 'Browsix' which lets you connect to your phone from your laptop's browser. For now, we provide a file manager and a picture, music and video viewer. The cool thing is: you don't have to configure anything. Just enable the app, point your browser to www.browsix.com and you will be redirected to your phone. Sounds great, doesn't it ?

You can try the online version at Browsix. Please let me know what features you would like to see implemented. I will do my best

You need to focus on developing apps where people can share content and build off of each others ideas. Apps such as these can go viral quick. I am experimenting with a flashcard app for Android. I am starting to get momentum but am fighting the bashers on the comments board. It is so frustrating. Can't believe people actually buy my app so they can post negative comments and push users to their apps.

I have never seen an app that lists all of the US Postal mailboxes. It would be nice if they also had the pickup time listed as well. I think this would be very useful.

Default App to fix broken application links on SD card

So as per this post I made:
Music keeps disappearing...

How about an app that would go through and "fix" the broken links or whatever is wrong. As mentioned, the folders, files, .apk files etc all "should" be there physically, it's just that whatever internal pointers are all messed up. If I re-install each of the apps that are "broken", then all my data within the application is there. I also see all the 'broken' ones in "Manage Applications > All" as they show up with little gray SD card images so clearly there's a way to find them and match them up somehow.

Default Lock screen widget

I'm getting tired of pushing the power button on my Evo to turn it on, then swipe down go get the pattern grid, then finally swipe my pattern to get into the GUI.

I know I can turn off all that stuff, but then I have no easy way to actually "lock" my phone when I want to. So for example, if I have my phone in my pocket all day then I don't want to do the magic incantation, but say I set it down on my desk at work to go to the bathroom or something, I want to then lock it.

On the PalmOS, I could push the power button off and on all day long and go in and out of the GUI without password prompt. Then on my GUI screen I had a little "lock" icon to press it and it would then lock my screen and require a password to unlock again.

Does anything like this exist? I've not found one.

Satelite comms. The technology is already on the shelf! Mobile phone operators have spent so much money on terrestrial data solutions that they're holding back to re-coup their money, and are in no rush to miniaturize and roll Satelite phones out, which would bring costs down.

Failing that; USB charging ports in cafe's resteraunts is what I want. I know its not an app, but they would be handy.

An app that can override your SIM lock. Some nice pastry's. Where can I buy a Steamin Weanie Locator?

As a Hard Core All Year Round Motorcyclist, having quick access to weather apps is critical for me, and I have many. What's missing is a WEATHER RADAR WIDGET. Yes, I can open up apps and go to Radar, but I'd LOVE a widget that would just show the NOAA Radar. NWS radar image from Sterling, VA

This in a Widget with options to set locations, refresh times, and different sizes would be fantastic.

All kinds of options. First, you may get a kick out of widgetlocker. It allows you to customize the lockscreen, as well as set the volume key to power on. I realize that has little to do with what you were asking, but i too got very tired of using the power button. It's so much easier to use the volume rocker to wake the phone.

Now on to the real topic.
The answer to almost all app problems, as well as the answer to yours, is the app that every single Android owner should buy, learn, and utilize in their phones (in fact, it should just be assumed that when you buy an Android, you are going to spend a few extra bucks on this) is..........
TASKER

You can do one of two options that sound particularly useful to you (of course there are many many many many others, but this is just what comes to my mind for your situation).
1- Setup a lock pattern on/off widget on your homescreen. It's strange that Tasker can do this, but the 2.2 Evo doesn't do it stock.
2- Setup the lock pattern to always engage while you are at work, and off whenever you are not at work. You can base this off of your physical location, or the wifi that your phone is connected to, or based on the time of day, or whatever is the most flexible for you.

Again, there are many many many many many other things that you can do with Tasker, and you will find them, and you will use them, but just know that it takes care of your current situation.

FYI, here's the 7 day free trial from the developer's website so thaat you can give it a try before you spend the 6 bucks.

Arrow Owner splash screen

Here's another thing I miss from PalmOS. When my screen was locked, it would show this:

I wish Android (or HTC) would incorporate some kind of "splash" text like that into their GUI so that if my phone is lost, someone would have at least a clue as to who's it is to return it.

I just want an app that turns off the phones dimmer! I still want the screen to timeout in a few minutes which I can do stock. But, when in my car dock, the screen dims even though the screen never turns off while charging. I've found apps that will keep the screen from dimming, but also keep it from turning off. That sucks as I often forget to turn off the phone at the table or it turns on when I put it into my pocket. Nothing is more annoying to me than having my phone in the car charger and the screen dimming. My DX is set to keep the screen on while charging, but still dims. There is an app that will keep the screen from dimming when it detects movement, but if I'm parked and not shaking the phone, it still dims.

Okay, I found something that works kind of close...
www.appbrain.com/.../com.teslacoilsw.widgetlocker which is an AWESOME app/idea. Well worth the $1.99 (first app I've ever purchased actually)

combined with this:
www.appbrain.com/.../com.eldos.ownerinfo

it's not perfect, but it at least does what I needed above.

Good and bad it seems.
I have been using widget locker for a long time now, and with root access it is perfect!
I use Contact Owner to display all info that I want others to see if I lose my phone (owner name, contact number, and reward). It displays on the swipe-lock screen, but does not give the ability to call.

The reason that I am saying that it seems bad, is that the ownerinfo widget seems to allow you to make a call, which, as it appears (though i could be wrong) would allow someone to bypass your lock screen if you lost your phone (call the number, then hit the home button?).

If i am wrong please tell me, because that is a great idea! I'm worried about security though.

I was looking for a gmail widget in the market recently, hoping to find something like this. I'm picturing a widget, and maybe 4x2, that shows what's in the inbox, and allows a user to delete/mark as read/ click on a given email to open it for reading and replying, all without opening the actual app. It would be a scrolling widget to accommodate a full inbox. Is this doable, maybe with the appropriate inventor?

Hmm. So easy to build. I could build it, but copying it would lead to some kind of design infringement.

I remember when I used widget locker + ICE on a version with the ability to call my emergency contact from the widget(I believe for one reason or another this ability was taken off), when I ended the call, it took me to the stock lockscreen.

How bizarre, I totally just had the same idea today while the baby was napping and I was out shoveling. Good app idea.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned or is there already one out there, but how about:

an app. to delete all the crappy/unwanted preinstalled apps on the phone memory.

or maybe an app to increase the size of the phone memory.

Usually involves rooting, but some roms should do this for you.

Cool Sms folders

On my old work phone "Katana LX" by Sanyo (piece of garbage) it
would allow me to
create folders to store SMS in an organized fashion.

ie:
work/ (incoming for work related SMS)
review/ (work orders to review)
closed/ (work orders that are closed)
complete/ (work orders completed by me)
Imagine these are the folders.

now I can send SMS texts to the folders for future reference in a contextual way.

That is my idea. I cannot find anything in the droidmarket or in online searches that allow this.

I find this absolutely necessary for work.
I get work orders via SMS from my company and some I need for later use to follow up on work orders.

Why is this not possible on smart phones like the 'black berry/iphone/Android'??
How can these amazing phones be shown up by a piece of garbage like the Katana??

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF MONKEYS GIVE ME THE OPTION OF MAKING FOLDERS FOR MY SMS!?!?!?! )

Thank you

elf_droid out!

A good simple reliable word processor, which saves docs to be compatible with office.

I have a couple ideas for apps I'd like.

The first is not so much an app itself but a social networking template which developers could easily take advantage of. One in which a developer could finish up for any particular interest or demographic. People could find others who have the same interest and connect on a one on one basis or in groups. People who download the app for a specific interest or demographic can limit the amount of information shared. Most such apps are geared towards singles but more people than just singles want to socialise with others.

A second app is a means of reporting invasive species by location, date and extent of presence. The info would be uploaded to a webpage or database so that measures could be taken against them.

Holy niche demographic Batman! Why do you need an actual app for this and not just a web page? Are you out and about and thinking, "Gee, I wonder what invasive species there are right here where I'm standing?"

An app that browses this thread and writes in bed after every single app idea.

Oh wait that's niche, crap!

Default the im not paying attention app.

ever been driving in a parking lot and some teenager(or mom with 4 kids running in the parking lot) is too busy texting to pay attention where they(or there kids) are walking? with the im not paying attention app its ok. this app would use your phone camera to constantly scan the area up to 15 feet in front of u (or lower if u like to live on the edge)? and sound an alarm if u are about to run into something or someone is gonna run u over.(or ur kids bad parents!) would be great
