Android ApplicationsAll the information you could ever want about Android Applications. Learn about apps and get help with them... all here! New apps can be found and announced in the Applications Announcements forum linked below.
A mapping program that will push pin honey's based on their weight, bust and age ... etc relative to your position. Then use the old handy dandy radar feature to bring you to their location.
Ex. I heard In n Out is having its 60th anniversary on Oct 22 (Yes I know G1 DAY! But I'm not sure if it's true) and will be serving Burgers for super cheap. I think around 15 - 50 cents or something like that. Anyways, an example would be that the G1 would have this event on a reel somewhere and I could set an alarm for this, which it will remind me. The GPS will help me find out which is the closest location and so on.
-----There was also a rumor that Wendy's was going to do the same thing....this makes me think that a great app would be a factcheck aggregator...something to keep people informed easily (how useful would that be?).
I mean think of how many false emails, or crap web stories, or even tv/news stories you may or may not have gotten or read about various political candidates (of all parties), cars running on water, "miracle cures", and what have you.
Just an app to help foster critical thinking in an unbiased manner.
Of course, for some reason, critical thinking seems to be something that many people assume is only for the intellectual elite or something....
I'm a longtime sidekick user, and just switched over to the G1... so some sidekick-type apps (such as Notes) would be nice.. i know there's Quick Lists... but just a generic note pad would be ideal.
Also... I REALLY hope someone develops a budgeting/checkbook balancing app so I can keep track of ye ol' finances ;-)
And i don't know the full breakdown of what's in the Market, here's my wishlist. This is a music/general nerdery post, so let me know if you don't know what i'm talking about.
Eno needs to port Bloom to the G1 (if you haven't seen this on the iPhone, or even read about it, peep it.)
An MPC style drum pad app would be sweet, something to bang out beats when you're bored.
A synth too, analog emulator, whatever....i mean the sky's the limit.
anyone else wanting to make beats or whatever on a phone?
What about the option to play a recorded message saying "Its not you its me, but really its you I'm just trying to be nice" for exs. and "Please remove me from your call list" for telemarketers.
So when you get a call you could just push a button and it would play them the message, you simply hang up at that point and the call would automatically end once the message is finished.
Also an option to add contacts you don't want to hear from so when they call you see nothing, but maybe a silent notification that says they tried calling.
Also the ability to set your phone to auto answer with custom voice mail away messages "Sorry i missed your call but I'm in a meeting/at the movies/seeing your gf, I'll be avalable after xx:xx to leave me a message press 1 now"
It would be such a handy tool for pretty much anyone.
you can do most of what you described with youmail
A more robust call log, with course (cell tower triangulation) or fine (gps) location. Also with the option to display actual number dialled (so I can compare it against my itemized phone bill), and with laptop/server/sdCard sync.
A more robust calendar app, with configurable week start day (Mon or Sun), and with laptop/server/sdCard sync.
A more robust contacts app with birthday and expanded notes fields, and with laptop/server/sdCard sync.
1 ) My first dream app is a very simple one, just a notepad where I can jot down notes. I can use a "to do" list on iGoogle but I'd rather have an actual app on the angel that was sent from above, otherwise known as my G1.
2) My second Dream app would be a video recorder. This would be great and leads me to my third dream app...
3)....A program that records video and uploads directly to YouTube
4) My fourth dream app would be an all in one eBay sellers app. It would walk you through the process of selling an item on ebay, including taking pictures of the item you are selling on your phone.
These would all make me very happy, so make it happen geniuses!
BTW my girlfriend, sister, and dad all have iPhones and I think my G1 is way better than all those phones put together. I was at Macy's yesterday looking for a western shirt for my Cowboy Halloween costume and I heard a song playing at the store. I whipped out my G1 and opened Shazam and tagged the song "Going Nowhere" by Cut Copy. I downloaded the version without lyrics (the 5:26 min version) and I'm listening to it right now as I type! Just some anecdotal info on the greatness of Android!
I want to thank everyone who makes apps for this great OS!
I'd love an app that could put certain contacts in a private area. That way someone looking at your phone wouldn't be able to see all of your contacts unless they entered in a passcode or something.
BTW it looks like a Notepad needs to be developed as it is the most popular idea in this thread so far. I like a lot of the other ideas though!

Perhaps even better would be an alternate sorting method?
On my WinMo devices, I could sort my Friends, Family, Services, etc.
Currently we only have Favorites.
And the idea of the Notepad would be perfect. Add to that a simple todo list (*cough*RTM*integration*).
1. XM Radio widget
2. Weather Widget that was a simple Icon that showed visibly what the weather was like outside (windy, snow, raining...) and the temp. It would be tied into your current location and would update based on your travels.
3. MAME
4. Xterm
5. VNC
6. SSH
7. Text Editor
8. File Browser
9. Web Server implementation
10. A Mobile Notes App
I think for the G1 anyway:
A better video player.
A way to install to SD Card.
A file manager to look at internal (like home directory only) and Sd Card.
Tether
Real Skype client(not the bs "we go over voice data to improve quality"thing thats there now).
I recently was comparing my G1 apps to my bosses iphone apps and the one thing I really liked was an app that brings up your map and shows you gas stations in the area and it displays the prices for each different gas station. It apparently works by allowing anyone with the program to enter what prices they see around town. So if I pulled into a gas station and regular was 2.50$ a gallon, I could enter that info and everybody else would see the change I made.
I hope that makes sense to everyone.
This app would be very helpful to me and many others!

Why not just add the "gasbuddy" app to your google maps? It shows bubbles at each gas station location on the map you are looking at with current prices listed when you click on them...
Also... I REALLY hope someone develops a budgeting/checkbook balancing app so I can keep track of ye ol' finances ;-)
I'm already working on a finance app. It uses buxfer.com to automatically update your account info so that you don't have to go download the data yourself. It lets you log manual transactions like uncleared checks, tag transactions, and view charts of expenses. Screens here.
As for apps I'd like to see:
- Chat app that uses data network rather than SMS.
- NES or SNES Emulator
- A real task manager (close open programs).
I can't believe that there's not a notes app out already. Google's own tutorial for the SDK is a notepad app. Maybe I should go flesh it out with a few features and publish it.
It would be really cool is someone would write a little app that adds to the market menu a "filter out apps i've already looked at" button. As the market begins to fill up, it'd be cool to not have to sort through a lot of the ones you've already looked at.
there is a SSh client out there for the G1... connectbot I think..
I wish I could find a easy to use and running telnet application I know people are like but dude zaTelnet Light is out there.. but all I can find on the http://www.zatelnet.com/gphone/main.php is the source code and lack the time and knowledge to compile it into a working .apk
A good Zmud client. Theres been tons of tims I wish I could mud.
Etch-a-Sketch program using the trackball and then shaking the thing to erase.
PDF viewer that would be as simply as clicking and dragging a pdf to my SDcard and reading it on the phone. Preferably with a zoom function like the chrome browser.
The ability to read webpages stored on the SDcard with the browser. I do my own html at times and being able to view and edit would be nice.
Coming from a blackberry, I cannot believe the G1 does not have spell check for email and text messaging. How do you have an email app on a phone come without spell check? It's hard enough to write any length of text on a small device, and to have to go back and manually check whether or not your finger slipped on the tiny keyboard and misspelled a word is just a pain. Come on Google, you even offer spelling suggestions on your search results!
The one thing that would make me really happy is an del.icio.us application for Android. I use it almost everyday, and it would be wonderful to go to my favorite sites and tag new ones easily from my G1 - (without going directly to delicious.com every time, that is).
What Android Application, if created, would make your mobile dreams come true? Please nothing ridiculous like, "you press a button and an uber hot chick pops out of the battery pack and is automatically in love with you."
Lets hear them!
I'd love an Android application that could allow you to use your phone as a remote control to change television stations. That would be SIIIIICK. Problem would be if you can go into someone else's house and change THEIR stations.
I think the "receiver" would need to be bluetooth enabled since I don't see phones being able to send infrared signals anytime soon. I guess the key here is actually having a RECEIVER that has the technology. The application is probably the easy part.
How cool would it be if you could use your phone to take video that automatically streams - and is saved to - your account on a website? People could browse by users, locations, etc... and see who is currently "phonecasting" video and watch them live.
This could be crazy if people take their phones into sporting events, concerts, etc... and you can browse streams by location... you could potentially pinpoint events going on and see video streams from people filming at the event with their phone.
Pretty crazy if you ask me. And very doable.
So you're walking along... but wouldn't mind hopping on a bus, catching a metro, jumping in a cab, etc... what is the QUICKEST or CHEAPEST way from point A to B?
This app would list all your options with distance, time, price and more. Supposing you select "bus" it would then help you navigate to the closest bus stop. It might also alert you to where the closest cab is or even connect you directly to a cab company who would instantly come to the GPS location referred to them.
When you buy something, you scan the receipt and can manage your expenses and accounting OH so easily. You'd also have permanent records if the IRS comes knocking on the door.
As you're on your trip you take pictures, type using a full qwerty keyboard, etc... and a LIVE journal is kept with features such as GPS location, time of input, etc to create a more dynamic "live journal"
Actually this just sounds like posting to wordpress from your phone with your location auto-filled via GPS hahahaha not really that exciting.
I'd say definitely some sort of Streaming Flash player plug-in to totally use the 3g to its capacity. I'm sure it's a popular request any how....and I'm sure it's in the works by a ton of developers
TOOLS-Both command line like ifconfig, and graphical like Advanced IP Scanner. Ping is there, the syntax is just a little odd.
Clients - VPN, RDP, telnet, VNC and so on.
Netstumbler
An app that lets me 'capture' my G1 on my laptop. When synced I would have my G1 emulated on my laptop and be able to maneuver around and enter/edit data through the larger screen.
Better Sync- If there is going to be no desktop sync then Google needs to improve the ability to sync from the desktop to Google then to the G1.
Unified messaging client- All of my clients with a blackberry spend their day there. Shouldn't matter if it's an Email, SMS or chat.
Payment Via Phone - Paypal maybe? But the ability to 'load' an amount on the phone that I could use for purchasing either in person - retail - or on-line.
I can think of lots of other App's - Vista MCE extensions or Linux MCE orbiters would be great!
More widgets! I want my home screen to be full of cool toys!
Calender widget showing my appointments for the day or even just my next appointment on my homepage.
Weather widget would be cool too.
A field for birthdays in contacts which atomatically appears in your calender would be good too.
The toggle application (for GPS, WIFI etc) is good but it could control more options. It could also be Widgetified i guess.
As someone else said some way of organising applications in the drawer, folders would be ideal. (i.e. set up a games folder to keep all my games away from the rest of my useful apps.)
Slightly more pie in the sky? An xbox media remote. I've seen there is one for controlling computer media, but it needs a install so that could kill it for the xbox i guess.
A Facebook app. would be nice and I'm sure there'll be one in the works somewhere.

The saddest thing ever is to be parted from a dear friend unexpectedly, one moment your trusty ANDROID is by your side speeding through the countryside or sharing a few moments of free wifi at a coffee bar - a blink of an eye or a distraction and your suddenly you find yourself completely alone.
I LOST MY ANDROID® ™
with I lost My Android you can log onto your Google Gmail at any PC and activate I LOST MY ANDROID application.
This will send a message to your ANDROID that Locks your ANDROID DOWN and displays a LOST ANDROID screen that cannot be bypassed by the phones finder.
The Lost Android screen will have Your Alternate Telephone Number and email address - and perhaps a network incentive to return the device to you.
I LOST MY ANDROID will also use any available route to transmit its location back to your GMAIL Account
Now I just need a developer
I remember seeing an App during the Android Developer Challenge that did just this. Their application had additional features to assist in the locating process (maps, tracking, etc). Check it out: Lost Android https://www.lostandroid.com/

Video recorder is a must. If all of the cheaper non-smartphones can record video, why can't the G1 or iPhone?! We need Qik or some other form of video recording App. At least then I'd be able to only carry my G1 and not Flip, iPod, and a phone. Especially when the G1 has the capabilities to do them all.
I would like to see a Bible application. KJV, ASV, etc.
Why stop at Christian bibles? Buddist, Jewish, etc. Lots of people would flock to it. Same type of App just different text loaded based on your desired religion.
An app which use the accelamometer to detemine if the G1 has been sitting still for a period of time - user configurable.
If it still, it shuts off services such as wifi, G3, bluetooth, gps to save battery. My gps logger does this. Different from locale, because if I set it down on my desk for a while, it would basically shut a bunch of stuff off.
Upon motion it restores to the prior state. Or upon use - again a user selectable option. So if I take it off my desk and stick it in my pocket it would stay in the "low power" state if I chose that option.
And if it was plugged in I could choose if it would fall to the lower power state. Kind of like the power settings on a laptop.
I consider this the "holy grail" of mobile apps. I would like to stream music from my collection on my home PC to my G1. Why store music locally on the device when I can just play it from home? No matter where I go, I'll have full access to my 50GB music collection.
IIRC, I think there's an Iphone app that does this.
I am a music student, and I think it would be really easy and useful to have a metronome app.
Slightly more difficult, but just as useful would be a tuner app that "listens" with the mic and tells you how flat/sharp you are, just like a regular tuner

OK I am not a programmer but this is what I want-
Off road trail maps downloaded to the SD card, so you don't have to update map with no signal.
Name of trip- grab the map you want and it saves to a new file on SD card for that trip, so the original map is still there.
Then under trip support for GPS, and photo tagging(like maybe just a camera button in app that auto stores your location and lets you take a pic, then takes you back to the map).
digital compass overlay on map, and maybe something like the Bubble app with a calibrate button, so you can see how off level you are(with maybe settable warnings for danger tipping points)
this is allot to fit on one screen and be able to see while driving so I was thinking that like the home screen that can be dragged over left and right, that the center would be map gps compass info, to the left would be the camera tagging stuff like thumb nail of photos taken on trip and location and the button to go to camera, and to the right the tilt on car truck with maybe another compass overlay and calibrate button (that way when you hit a climb or drop off on the trail all you have to do is slide to the right to see if you are going to tip over)
A setting for no screen time out or diming if power is pluged in.
then the ability to share the trip to others that way you can go out and EXPLORE and share or look up your faverate trial and see were others are going to have fun.
Thank you for your time reading this long post like I siad I am not a proggamer but I know what I want so hope this gets some good responce here I am on a few off road forums and they are holding there breth to see what happens.
Hey I am not sure if this is posted (too many to read) or in the process of making but it would be cool and I have been begging for this the GPS too say the directions out loud. Like the blackberry would tell you step by step where to go without ever having to look at the phone. Also the G1 should have an application that when a song is playing on the radio or some where, you put the phone to listen to the song and in like 1 or 2 mins it will find the song and it will tell you the song title, artist, album name, etc. Oh yeah it also needs an application for a touch screen keyboard.. So when I want to type ok or bye I won't have to open my phone to do that I can just do it right then and there..

They first have to make turn-by-turn direction capability for the phone. Then we can then complain about no voice~turn-by-turn directions.
~actually there is a application to recognize "songs" that you dont know information of. Its called Shazam
Simple needs2: A feature I really miss from my BlackBerry: Have the phone just vibrate twice BEFORE an audible ring. That way I can reach and hit a button to mute the impending ring.
This is great for meetings since I don't have to put the phone on silent, I just felt the vibe and casually reach and press the mute button.
Of course, the BlackBerry also had a magnetic holster so it you could also customize this by whether it was in the holster or out, but I don't know that the G1 has such a feature.
Simple needs1: An icon that would turn off all battery burners: GPS, wifi, etc.
Toggle to turn stuff back on.
Check out "toggle settings" available in the market already. from cooolmagic.
Allows you to toggle GPS, vibrate, screen timeout, Silent mode, and Wi-fi. from one menu. It'd be nice to see bluetooth (and 3G is that a battery killer?) on there too.
