I would PAY MONEY for this to be developed! Anyone else?!

It's bothersome to keep scrolling past ANy Cut, calCOOLator, Locale, OI *, PacMan, etc. EVERYTIME I go to market.

From what I understand, Google left the G1 without a video recorder to leave the chance for Android Developers - but still, it would have been nice to have one to start with.
However, the camera functions suck! Only has auto-focus. I want zoom 2x to at least 4x, crop, rotate, hue, color, etc. ANNND the option to save all photos/videos to microSD.

Default Better Alarm Function

The alarm that comes with the G1 is horrible, I like to wake to music not to 6 different variations of buzzs and beeps.

I would love to see an alarm app that lets you wake to MP3 or at the very least allow you to use the standard ringtones, anything but those horrible buzzers.

it does not help with the anon or unidentified calls, but when a salesman calls me with a valid number, I save it as a nonsense name that starts with Z (Zxfetso, zz9lse, zzquthe, etc) and give it a skull and crossbones picture and silent ringtone.

I have been doing this for years and it works well enough. The constant flow of missed calls from zzxy... is somewhat amusing.

Definitely would like a block caller app though though.

I'd really like to see some sort of Midi music composer for Android. I think it would be fun for killing time to have a program with, say, 10-20 various instrument sounds loaded in, a percussion kit, maybe 4 tracks or so, and a timeline. The app would allow you to choose the instrument for each track, add/remove/edit notes at any point in the timeline, and basically create very primitive (or possibly advanced, depending on the depth/quality of the app/composer) music files.

Then, naturally, you would be given the option to save your "songs" to the memory card, and be given the choice of setting them as your current ringtone.

I would love to see this app mainly for the fact that it would be a fun time-killer, but also because I've been looking for a program that I could compose my own ringtones with.

Maybe something like this already exists, but if not, I hope they make it soon.

Dont know if this has been mentioned (I cant read through pages and pages of posts), but has someone thought of making a customizable stock ticker that we can put directly on the home screen?

I'm new to the smartphone pool so I don't really care about increasing functionality at this point. The phone works for me right now. The apps that would make my life complete, however, are a lightsaber and a zippo. If someone can get to work on those you can have my first born.

One easy app would be an alarm that would alert you when your battery reaches a level that you set. Alert should be a mix of methods: sound, vib, both.

My app idea is quite simply...

...an app to let you write to google notes, google docs, and google spreadsheets.

Is that too much to ask for?

Star gazer app. Point your phone at the night sky then pan around. The star gazer app shows you names of stars, constellations, planets etc. Find a planet then zoom all the way in for a close up and more facts and figures.

I guess you would need GPS, internet, gyroscope, time/date and an internet connection for this to work.

How awesome would that be?

I like your thinking but wouldn't that just decrease the little battery life you have left quicker?

Maybe just a bit more subtle but have the indicator light flash a different colour?

Default car bluetooth on

I usually have my bluetooth off to save battery, and only need it on for when I'm driving. An app to automatically turn on/off the bluetooth based on whether I'm in my car would be great. It's almost like locale, but to accurately determine if I'm in my car and need bluetooth on, I think speed is the best indicator.

I want an app to monitor the accelerometer, when I start to go faster than 5 miles/hr, turn on the bluetooth so the phone will pair with my car's bluetooth. Once the connection to the car is lost, assume that the car has been turned off, it should turn off the bluetooth.

Check this idea out:

A program that lets you select several sounds that could randomly (or not randomly) switch your notification sound every time... so I don't have to hear the same one every damn time i get a text.

Also an option to add contacts you don't want to hear from so when they call you see nothing, but maybe a silent notification that says they tried calling.

Also the ability to set your phone to auto answer with custom voice mail away messages "Sorry i missed your call but I'm in a meeting/at the movies/seeing your gf, I'll be avalable after xx:xx to leave me a message press 1 now"

It would be such a handy tool for pretty much anyone.

Hmmm....try www.youmail.com. its free...you can set up custom messages based on the number thats calling, and you can even set up "ditch mail" where it play a greeting then disconnects not giving the caller the option to leave a message.

Get me out of here! a.k.a. Fake Phone Call - a one touch application that would launch a fake incoming phone call from a preset contact in a preset amount of time. Caller ID, contact picture and name would come up on screen for added reality. Useful for ditching a boring conversation without seeming too rude.

"Damn, it's work, I better take this!"

If one exists, someone please point me to it.

Default notepad

The notepad app is out there now, and it's called G-Notepad
it took me 4 hours to develop

I don't have a G1, so please someone post here the comments the users are putting on the market .. i can't see them without the phone itself.

Also, if you have suggestions, feel free to post them here, or as pm

Then you have advertisers, head hunters, bill collectors, call boxes, stalkers, relatives...

I'd take this idea one step further and add a white list feature. For example, when a new call comes in, if the caller's caller-ID isn't in my phone book, the call could be silently sent straight to voice mail. Or a call-group could be checked. Of course a simple black-list feature would still be good. Whenever a call was ignored a notification could be entered, or a log could be updated.

My desire for this feature is one of the main reasons that I bought a G1. With an open source phone I am definitely going to try writing a better phone app (assuming that no one else does it first) .
My top pick for an app. Another option could be to select certain area codes/exchanges so you could block 800 numbers etc.

Especially useful would be a simple "block this number" button when anyone calls.

Can't wait for something like this.

There needs to be a complete overhaul of the notification system. some type of notification manager. I don't think I am alone in stating that one noise and a subtle blinking on my phone is not really a clear 'notification'.

Something like Blackberry Alerts COUGHAndroidAlertsCOUGH. Allowing for different notification light colors, vibration sequences and such for different types of alerts all user configurable.

That's not even taking into account some of the bugs like if you leave a gmail conversation open you don't get a gmail alert until you go back to your inbox and the imap/pop issues.

I think it'd be cool to have an application like the last.fm for archive.org, to be able to stream live music that's up on the Live Music Archive.

Default Nice music player?

When are we going to see a nice, simple, elegant music player? The music player that ships with the G1 is really rough around the edges.

What I want:
- Playback mode that I don't have to see to use. When I'm driving, I want to touch the right area of the screen to skip to the next track... not some little tiny button that I have to look at to see and use. I'm driving.... I don't want to have to look.

- Playlist navigation just like in the G1 Contacts so that I can quickly navigate by alphabet. As it is now, it takes a ton of scrolling to get through my list of mp3s.

- Voice activated playback. If I say 'stop' it should stop... etc.

When you're driving?

Shit, you should BE DRIVING!

[rant]
GOODNESS NO!

We'd hate for you to have to take your eyes off the road!

Get real man. It's people like you that cause accidents. Your car has a car s-t-e-r-e-o? Please. Please use it.

My brother works for the local police as a dispatcher. His wife as a fire department dispatcher. I can't begin to tell you the shitty F-ing horror stories about the terrible accidents senseless, careless innocent people are put through because of the gawd-damned cell phones.

Please keep your eyes ON the road, not your phone. Pull over to make a call. If someone is riding with you, have them answer your calls, manage your texts, navigate your Google Maps, etc.

I would love to see an alarm app that lets you wake to MP3 or at the very least allow you to use the standard ringtones, anything but those horrible buzzers.
I wake up to mp3's:

Go to the Alarm Clock / choose the alarm time you use / Choose Ringtone and make sure you have the mp3 you have as a part of that folder.

The application i would most like to see on the G1 is an app that allows you to save contacts to the SIM card. I cant believe that such a useful feature is always missed off on newer phones like it was missed from the iphone.

yeh it would be limited to just name and number - but still a really good feature to have on the phone.

any one agree?

Ummm, I'm a huge console gamer, so I think it might be kinda cool to see an app that lets you create your own android avatar and be able to interact with each other (in a simple way, IM etc..). Well, if I could dream, I'd create a small lobby type room to show off our avatars, connect with each other and maybe even one day..multiplayer gaming. Ooooh!

There is it's called Klaxon... download it from the app store much better than the stock but it's still a little buggy....

On my last SmartPhone (Shadow) I was able to search through my SMS inbox for any word, just my viewing the inbox and typing the word(s) I was looking for.

Can't do that on the G1 - WISHLIST IDEA!

Default Picutre Caller ID

I would really like an Ap that allowed me to make a full screen picture show up. I know we have the ability to do it, but I would much rather have the picture take up the whole screen (or at least most of it.) Any one else want this?

I have been thinking about this for a few days now and I must admit it was something I found useful on my other handsets and kind of miss it on the G1.

It's not an original idea by me but I do miss SMS backup. Now on my S60 handsets (N82/N95) I have an application called Gsync by Psiloc. Now this backs up all my SMS/MMS to my gmail account.

The clever bits about it are the fact that it actually creates the label for you also so that any SMS/MMS you upload goes under the corresponding Label making it even easier to search for messages, they are even threaded the same way as your mail. It's all done wirelessly i.e. wifi or GPRs etc and is very quick.

Now the fact that a non Android/Google handset can do it then I don't see why something couldn't be developed for an Android handset.

Its early days and it would be so easy to get carried away and expect way too much too early but some of the little things I have taken for granted on well established platforms are being missed now on the G1.

Now I am not for a minute wanting rid of the G1 but I can't wait for the App store to evolve especially the paid for stuff so that we may start to get some real quality

I wish I could develop but respect to those who do and can

How about an app that alerts you when new apps are available for download from the app market??

What would be cool is if the market place could tell you there are updates to what you already have installed
