You can only access the app folder that he is talking about with Root Explorer or something like that, and you have to be rooted. Astro and ES only have access to the SD card where Root Explorer can access the phone itself and the SD.

It wouldn't work on DSL at home but I got it to work on someone's Fios.

Astro can see the internal memory fine. /mnt/emmc is where everything i save internally is accessed. There are also 2 other folders i can access from /mnt/
now every app/apk i get from amazon is stored (on my phone at least) in /mnt/sdcard/android/data/com.amazon.venezia/cache
This might not be the case for all but it is in my case true

edit: i realize that without root there is MUCH i can't access internally besides attachments and my pics and vid's (i chose to save those on internal)

Theres an tablet version available (tegra zone?) with higher resolution textures but needs allot of memory, works on other devices with 1GB of memory.

Tablet version uses around 300mb of memory when running compared to 70mb on the mobile version.

But I agree the quality of the mobile version is very poor in comparison.

Perhaps it depends on the phone model or ROM or something as to where the files are saved to. On my Dinc running Froyo I can't tell Amazon where to save my files, so they are automatically put in the phone's internal memory. And to see that you need to have root privilege.

Edit: you posted just before I did and said the same thing basically. So NVM

Hmm i never told it where to save them and i stumbled on a amazon folder (see above post) that had the same number of apk's as i have apps 'bought'
they do have weird names so hard telling what is what but they are apk's...

You know, I can see what you are talking about with that dir on th sdcard. I see a bunch of files, however by looking at them they are all the same size: 1.33mb. I tried uninstalling one and the amazon appstore got uninstalled. So I don't know if these are the installer files or what.

hmm that is strange. I have like 50 or so files and they are all different sizes. details say apk's.... i simply assumed that every time i hit 'get app' it was saving the install file.... might mess with it after i get up later.

If you play with it any more than keep me posted, i'm interested now

After uninstalling just that one random file (then reinstalling the amazon appstore), I went back and now the entire directory on the sdcard is gone! I checked the appstore and all my apps are still there. The ones I still have on my phone still work, so I don't know what that directory is. Perhaps it's a temp dir for installing the new apps. Idk

HUH

Well that is A LOT of space they are using depending on how many apps you have from amazon. Perhaps a routine uninstall - reinstall might help app perform better... Wonder if clearing cache does the same thins or if those apks are factored into total app space

Well, I just downloaded Astro to see if there was a difference between that and ES, but I still couldn't see anything in that directory. I also checked the Appstore specs, and it's only taking up 2.7 MB, with only 280K data and no cache, so it looks like I'm rooting if I want to go further on this - my big concern is that I'm running out of internal memory with almost every app I download until I move the app to the SD card, so I'd like to know if that's because I just have too much loaded on this poor little Droid, or if those APKs are eating up space unnecessarily.

So at the risk of sounding like a complete newb, is there a definitive idiot-proof guide to rooting a Droid running 2.2.2? I'm PC-savvy, but know next to nothing about Linux, and every time I've looked into rooting I find all these conflicting methods floating around, so up till now I've chosen to just not bother with it. What's the best method?

I was getting some lag on my first play session, when the levels started getting big. However, since then it's been fine. Pretty addictive and very fun.

Anybody else follow the achievement hole all the way? It was cool.

PAC-MAN is the free app today.

Wow, to think of all the hours I spent at the arcade playing this game.

With the Chinese Zombies?

The last boss is a pain...I get so close to winning until he throws one of those little egor zombie things towards the back and I can't kill it fast enough.

Yep, there’s a version for tablets out there marked for Tegra 2 devices, I've got both apk files on my phone, no idea where you get it legally I'm afraid.

But it is easy to find.

Default lost save file

I have Samsung Epic 4g.
When i downloaded game i decided to move it to SDcard but game was not working on SDcard so i had to move it back to phone so i could play. Basically, only way to play game on Epic 4g, is to have game installed on phone ONLY!

After playing for hours all day, on and off (i was at the pool level) then, when i logged back in, my name was gone, and all my save data was gone (had to create new name) I'm very pissed off to lose my day worth of progress.

Why did game lost save file?
What if it happens again?
How to avoid this situation in the future(i don't want to start game after 20 levels every time it lose data)
Where is save file location so i can back it up to SDcard (and will it work)???

Me too. It is very disappointing to see Amazon encouraging people to use task killers!

Yea, a bunch of people gave it one star and pointed out that app killers are not needed. Good to see.

I just used Android Injector to install the Amazon App Store last night (ATT - HTC Inspire 4G), but no good apps yesterday or today.

The lack of timely updates in the Amazon Appstore is a bit of an annoyance.

Who's fault is it? Does the developer submit the update to both Google and Amazon at the same time and Amazon just takes a lot longer to approve/post the update?

Or does some developers consider the Android market the more "important" one and delay/skip releases to the Amazon market?

For example, FlexT9 was updated yesterday on the Android market. No update yet on Amazon.

Today's freebie (Saturday 6/4) is mSecure Password Manager. Regular price $4.99. Panned by those that got it for free on Amazon's reviews, rated somewhat highly on Google's Market. Go figure.

I forgot the username and password for a credit card that I rarely use so I was going to get a password app. I was one click away yesterday from buying msecure but I didn't want to spend $5 on it so I got a free app. I was shocked when I saw it was the free app today.

Today (6-7-11) it's Car Maintenance Reminder Pro, regularly $1.99. Seems to be rated well on both Amazon and Google Markets. The free version on Google only allows for one vehicle, while the Pro version free from Amazon today does not have limits on the number of vehicles. No ads, too.
Update 6-8-11 Didn't like it. uninstalled. Too many settings. Too many notifications.

I liked the Car Reminder app myself. Does what it's supposed to do. Nags me about getting the oil changed in my car. I have no woman in my life at the moment so I need someone to nag me about these things. Might as well be my phone.

Today's free app teaches salsa dancing??? Really?? That's the best you can get???

Default Amazon games

if you download the free paid app of the day and delete it
can you reintall it for free
if you go into my apps and goto all, all the dl'd ones are there and say install, is it still free for those or do they become paid apps?

You can "buy" it when it's free and then uninstall and if you ever want it again, it's free. Just download again from my apps

As long as the app stays available. Diner Dash 2, which was free a while back, is no longer available. It's not even in the Android Marketplace either. Good thing I made a backup of it

You actually never even have to install it in the first place. Just hit cancel on the install screen and It goes in 'my apps'

Today's free app is Ledgerist. I'm just curious, does anyone actually use apps like this? With all the mobile banking apps available I just don't see a need for these apps.

Well, it's free, so I thought I'd try it. I keep a checkbook register on my PC (AceMoney) and wish I could sync it with the phone. AceMoney doesn't have a mobile version for Android. But Ledgerist is fairly simple to use. Some complained that there is no place to enter the check number except in the notes. I entered my checkbook data from the beginning of the month, fairly simple. Had to go back and changed dates, as it automatically enters today's date for the transaction. Easy to do. One glitch is that I wanted to edit an entry to make it repeat every month and could not find a way to make that change. Had to delete the entry and then re-enter it. The first time it goes in is the only time your are presented with the option to make it a repeatable event.
Since I've only gotten the app today, I can't make a valid appraisal of it, and haven't used other mobile apps to compare it to. But I would like to do more stuff on the smartphone and less on the PC wherever possible.
Can't go wrong trying it; the permissions are acceptable.

If I planned to use it as it was designed, then I would agree with you. What's the point? But, I think what I'm going to do is use it to track cash. Sometimes, you pull out $200 from the bank for your cash moments and then you can't remember where it all went.

Not saying that I'll keep up with it, but I figure it can't hurt to try and it's free.

My Coffee Card Pro is free today.

I have been using this app for a couple weeks now. This app works exactly the same as the official app Starbucks released for Apple. I have made purchases with it at Starbucks and reloaded the card through the app. No problems what so ever. Works great. I highly recommend.

I am sorry if this has already been asked. I have the Amazon Appstore widget on my phone and keeps telling me there is an update. Now If I go ahead with the update will the Amazon app store overide the Android Market on my phone or will I have access to both? Is there a reason why I should have the Amazon app store over the Android market? I only got the Amazon because I wanted a certain app that was free if you signed up with Amazon thats all.

Updating the Amazon App Store won't effect the Android Market. It will update like any other app on your phone. The Amazon store is completely complimentary and serves as just another choice to get your apps. I think most people have both installed, using the Market for most apps and the Amazon store to pick up a good free app of the day.

For the past couple of weeks, the Market was asking me to update a program. I didn't want to because I was using the version that I had downloaded from Amazon. Initially, I downloaded it from the Market, but when Amazon had a free Pro Module to it, I thought it would work better if I reinstalled it from Amazon.

Anyway, I took a chance and updated it from the Market. It was a new version and interface. A week or so later, Amazon stated that I needed to update the same app. I figured it was the same version and I just wanted it off the update screen. Turns out it was a different version. Quite possibly an older version. When I looked back in the Market, it was requesting another update, so I updated again and it went back to what I think is the newer version.

I wrote all that to say: I've read before that Amazon gets their updates later than the Market and it looks like that is what happened with that application. If there is a major difference in where you update, that is probably it.

That's not exactly what you were asking, but if it comes up as an issue for you...

Amazon curates their store. Google doesn't. So if I'm a dev and publish an update to Google, it goes out immediately. If I publish an update to Amazon, I have to wait for them to approve it.
