I'm looking for a way to move the photos taken on my phone to my computer (running Ubuntu) and maybe a cloud.

I want it to detect which photos have already been synced so that I don't end up with multiple copies of the same picture on my computer.

It would be great if the process could be automated but I don't mind initiating a manual sync as long as I don't have to go through and try and remember which photos I've already uploaded.

I do have a 2Gb dropbox account which I could use to do manually but it's not big enough to store all my photos. I would prefer not to have to manually move them to my pictures folder on my computer either.

Are there any apps that can achieve this? Perhaps a photo hosting/sharing service?
Photobucket is a no-go as the app forces close as soon as it opens, not that I'm sure it would do what I want anyway.

I've done a bit of googling on the subject but haven't been able to find what I want.

This makes me a sad panda, I may have to look at duel booting windows but I'd rather not bother.

Thanks I know zero about shell scripts, how they work and how to use them. Can you point me in the direction of any instructions or tutorials so I can get this to run?

Does it allow syncing over wifi/3G or do I have to mount the phone via USB?

Is there an app that will automatically upload photos as they're taken to some image hosting/photo sharing site?
A site that will allow me to easily download those photos a group at a later date?

Doesn't automatically upload, but as soon as you run it, it sees which pictures have not yet been uploaded and asks you if you want to send those.

I sync my photos to Picasa using Picasa Tool Pro.

It's cloud storage, and there's a Picasa client for Linux (although I typically use the web browser).

You're running ubuntu but dont know what a shell script is

And If you can find anything you can always just try running the above mentioned programs in Wine. Or run a virtual PC if you don't want to DB

Unfortunately the photobucket app crashes as soon as it starts. I've tried reinstalling a few times with no luck. I doubt my handset is available outside of japan so i guess it's not supported.

Wikipedia is always a good starting point

Also, give wine a try. It may take some time installing depending on your internet connection but it allows you to run .exe programs for windows on your linux machine.
