Default Video Calls: Fring vs Qik vs Tango vs Skype

So, has anyone found or done a review to see who is the best video calling? I will try to do extensive testing on these for the next week. My criteria is

1) Easy to setup and get other people to install it
2) Call quality over a mix of wifi/3g
3) Compatibility, must play well calling from Android to iOS devices
4) Bonus features

I guess skype is out of the run for now but still included it as it may show up any day now (i think, maybe, no...verizon?)

Tango has the best video in my own personal experience but will drain the battery (I uninstalled it). Tango had an echo when I used my EVO 4G to chat with my cousin who has the GS2. Qik has the worst picture. Fring has decent picture and good voice. Skype has no video chat for the EVO yet. I tested all 3 sitting in the same location.

i like fring because of the 4person video chat. i like tango because it has good video quality over 3g. haven't tried skype yet but i did try to use the skype mobile for the thunderbolt on the incredible 2 with no dice.

Well so far for ease of use and quality, Tango beats fring when going from DINC2 to TBolt(3g no 4g/wifi).

Now what sucked about both is when calling an iPhone, stupid iphones don't ring, they just pop up a message so they will miss it if not looking. Another reason to hate iOS. what an idiotic way of multitasking.

So basically, i have to call my wife first, tell her i'm going to video call her and call back.. annoying...

Wink Tango + Battery Life

Hi, Tango uses Google push notifications to wake up your phone when you receive a call on Android 2.2 or higher. Using this technology will not drain your battery. Try Tango again if you're running version 2.2 or higher for improved battery life.

Default Tango Needs LOTS Of Audio Work!

My wife and I both have Samsung Epic 4G's. Both installed Tango this morning. The audio quality is fine on a voice call. But the very minute you turn your external speaker on, the audio starts screaming, screeching, yelling, whooping, and basically sounds like an attack scene from "The Birds".

Proximity is not the issue; it's not "feedback" or "echo". And we've gone to opposite ends of the street and have the same prob.

Haven't tried using with headphones yet...buy that kinda defeats the purpose of having a MOBILE video chat app. The video looks great and keeps in time...but sound is total crappola. I realize it's a freebie...but don't put something out there that doesn't work like it's supposed to.

My 2-cents...

Hi Drew,

Tango just recently updated their app on the Android Market. This should hopefully address the audio issues you were experiencing. Please check it out and let me know what you think!

im liking tango.. no need to login, its like calling someone 's phone, for free.. fring is alright.. i tried calling a google talk account, voice chat, the quality was terrible.. fring video is ok, but unlike tango, u have to sign in etc.. if u dont mind that (or want that) fring is a good option. but tango had the best quality for me.
