I have a NexusOne running Android 2.3.4, running Maps version 5.6.0.
For some reason I no longer hear voice directions when Maps is in navigation mode. The phone volume is turned all the way up... but only silence when navigating (I never thought I would miss that hideous synthetic voice but I do! ;-)) This is a serious problem for me - I would rather not have to look down at the phone to navigate. I haven't found anything in the app settings to enable or disable voice. Can anyone help?

have you tried hitting menu and then unmute?

Wow, I did not know that "Navigation" mode has its own menu!
Yes, that did it - thank you!

I think that having a separate menu in Navigation mode is pretty poor design - after all, I don't want to be fiddling with the phone while driving!
