Question Sat Nav App?

Hello,

I've just upgraded from an iPhone 3GS to a HTC Sensation and I'm looking for Sat Nav software for the new device.

My wish list isn't particularly arduous:

* Text to speech to read out the street names
* Locally stored maps
* Full UK Postcode search (to the door)
* Music player integration so the app turns down the music automatically to make announcements

I've been looking at all the major players that I can find and I can't see one which does all of these things. Am I missing something?

It is slightly frustrating as the iPhone apps seem to do all of these things - I used Navigon and it was really good. I was going to just get Navigon again but I read that it's postcode search doesn't take you to the door, just the middle of the street that the destination is on. Not exactly ideal. I downloaded the demo of Sygic and it doesn't do text to speech or music player integration.

I'm not sure if it's just that I have out to date information on the Android apps and maybe they do perform these functions.

Can anyone suggest a sat nav app which does these things?

Thanks for your help.

Does the built-in Google Maps Navigation not do everything you've listed?

Edit: Sorry - missed the locally stored maps bit! My bad.

Yea, it doesn't do music control to turn the volume down when it does announcements either.

Are there any apps for Android that do all of these things?

Not all do. The iPhone has apps with locally stored maps as well as apps that download maps on the fly.

What apps have you already looked at? There really are not a whole lot of options for locally stored maps to begin with. CoPilot and Navigon are the big two that I can recall off the top of my head.

I have looked at the spec of both of those apps you mentioned (and Sygic) and none of them do all 4 of the functions that I am looking for:

* Text to speech to read out the street names
* Locally stored maps
* Full UK Postcode search (to the door)
* Music player integration so the app turns down the music automatically to make announcements

Each of the apps do maybe 1 or 2 of these tasks.

Is there an Andriod Sat Nav app which will do all of these things?

Are you sure you are looking correctly? Copilot can do all those above.
Select the correct voice to read street names. All maps are locally stored. Search for a postcode and enter street/house number to take you door to door. I have not played music from the phone, but whenever there are voice instructions, the music in my car stops till the instruction is over.

CoPilot 8 gets good reviews of the Sat Nav apps with local map storage.
