Default Google Voice

Didn't see a dedicated Google Voice (GV) thread despite a forum search and google search so I thought I'd start one, so that we could discuss its features, and whatever else about it.

I'm a pretty avid user of the service and app. Been using the service around 2009 and the app since I got my Incredible back in October 2010. It's come along nicely in the time I've been using it.

One feature I want more than anything is picture messaging. I've got some friends who are actually mad at me for using GV because they can't send me pics and have to manage two numbers for me so that they can.

I use it for all text messaging and some calls. I would also like to see MMS!

Nobody but my sister and wife have my real phone number, everyone has my GV number. I do 90% of my texting through it as well. I agree it needs MMS. I'd be able to cut the texting cord if MMS was available. I'm surprised they haven't added it after 2 years.

I think the poll is missing an option: "I use it exclusively for voicemail"

I don't see the need for a dedicated thread. There are certainly plenty of threads discussing Google Voice. If you can't find them, try a site restricted Google Search. If you want to start a thread discussing particular aspects of GV then you've done so. Your thread doesn't have to be "dedicated". Other threads on GV will come and go just as this one will.

Not an issue for me. Saves me from getting countless "cute" and "funny" pics that I don't need. If it's important, my contacts can email me. YMMV, of course. If you want the feature make sure you promote the feature request on Google's site.

I've heard that MMS works with Sprint's GV integration. Can't verify as I'm with VZW and don't intend to switch.

Or "I use all/most GV features".

One thing I would dearly love is group texting functionality. I use GV is my primary number.

Yeah you're right, I should have put a voice mail option in the poll. What was I thinking!?

Verizon's voice mail service never notifies me when I get a voice mail, so I have to remember to check it. I love that GV can trump your carrier's voice mail. Definite killer feature.

Weird! looks to me like there is a 5th option about voicemail

(Disclaimer: it is entirely possible that I may have possibly maybe added that 5th option)

It does with Virgin Mobile, which is Sprint.

I don't know about picture messaging. Don't care either.

The app needs multiple alarms for texts. MMS would be nice, but I can live without it. Google voice on the phone is unreliable for texts unless they are forwarded to my cell number. I haven't noticed any updates to the app in the 6 months I have been using it. The service is great and has room for improvement.

I have started giving out my GV number to new people I meet simply because it's what I use for texting and it's easier than having to explain that they can call me on one number but text me on another.

I also would love to be able to send Picture messages. People try to send me pic messages and I don't get them and they get mad at me for not replying - lol.
