Default Wow, google stores your saved wi-fi passwords to the cloud?

That's kinda creepy and cool at the same time. I just wiped my device and upon enabling wifi... it immediately connected to my password protected home wifi.

Sorry if this is old news... but it's new to me!

Hehe yep -- pretty sure it's encrypted before being sent over to their servers though. At least via SSL/TLS.

There is a setting to turn off the backup under Setting >privacy but then I think it also turns off the other kinds of backing up it does too (like apps/wallpaper/etc) -- paid apps would still be tied to your account though.

nice photos btw!

Yeah, I'd imagine so. If I can't trust them to be that smart with my info, I shouldn't be on their platform to begin with.

That's creepy and bad of Google. Google should ask you if you want your WiFi passwords stored to the cloud. I would have said no. If Microsoft did something like that on Windows, there would be public outcry and a congressional investigation. But if Google does it, people are like, "Wow, cool feature. Google is awesome."

Hmmm...this is a bit disturbing. I did not know this. It also brings a whole new dimension into the whole "sync everything business" - at least for me. But I can't see any alternatives, if I want to use always-on online services (aka, "the cloud). Open to suggestions though.

I dont think they need to sync it to the cloud - google already know all of your router passwords from when the streetview cars drove around hacking them all.

j/k

Default Can I turn this off?

I recently did a hard reset of my phone and formatted the SD card. I was shocked when it somehow remembered my wifi password. The thing is that When I synced with my gmail I got all my contacts back which is cool, but the whole time I was pretty sure I had the backup feature with google turned off. Also none of my apps or other settings were restored in anyway that I can tell. Anyways I'm just wondering if anyone knows where in Google's account settings this can be managed. I have been searching the net and google and can't find anything.
