Default Gmail unread count alternative

I've used the free version of gmail unread count for ages on my htc desire but now I have ags2 and found that it force closes quite often. So I see that there is a paid version but all the most recent reviews say that it also force closes. So obviously I'm not going to waste my money paying for an app that still had issues buti was thinking there must be another app out there that does the same thing? Just want some sort of visual notification like when I get a text message.

Any suggestions?

All 3rd part Gmail count apps are no longer working after the latest Gmail update.
You can either wait for the developers to fix their apps or as I read yesterday, you can restore an older version of the Gmail app and move the apk of the notifier app to /system/app.

I use gmail label notifier and it still works. I've been using it for a long time now.

It still shows the unread count on the Gmail icon? Does it work with launcher pro?

Yeah it shows my unread count on my gmail icon and its working with launcherpro. Gmail label notifier is a widget you create pick the color of the icon you want what part of your gmail account you want it to monitor (inbox, sent, all etc) and place it on your screen.

I've never been able to get that working properly, its something that Google themselves need to fix.

I no longer see this in the market.

This isn't a Google problem. The updated the Gmail app API.

That's according to the launcher pro developer. He says he will get a fix when Google provides the new API and he can test it.

GMail Label Notifier - Android app on AppBrain
I don't know if its just me, but I downloaded the Appbrain app and clicked to install it on the appbrain website but when I go to the Appbrain app on my phone, and login, go into Manage and Sync, Gmail Label Notifier has the word "install" next to it but when I press "Sync" nothing happens.

If I press on the Gmail Label Notifier, it say the requested item could not be found.

If I search Gmail Label Notifier in appbrain and go to install it, it says the requested item could not be found?

That's because appbrain links to the market, and the market no longer has the app.

This isn't going to be an easy fix.

Ye, like I said before, now with this new 'update', things just got a lot harder.

Well, on the one hand it's good to know that GO Launcher isn't failing. On the other hand, this sucks; why would google make this function Gmail only? Sounds like a decision made by another company that heavily competes with Android...

I don't think I'd be too bothered if the Gmail app itself would show the unread count. Since it doesn't, it's not that there's no alternative; there's just no way to do it at all.
