How can I send a Ctrl sequence with the keyboard?

Specifically in the connectbot app. I'm trying to SSH into a machine and use nano to do some simple editing. The key to save a file in nano is Ctrl+O, but I cannot figure out how to send this. I searched and found that some apps use the search or menu buttons for ctrl but this didn't work for me. How can I send Ctrl in connectbot?

Yeah I found that thread when I searched but it doesn't work in ConnectBot unfortunately.

I'm sure I could just for this task but still there are many reasons why I would need to send a ctrl other than editing
