Hi,

I am looking for a GPS app that tells you what kind of place you are in. So instead of giving an address, the app should tell you something like 'You are at a restaurant' , or 'You are in a hospital', or 'You are at the movies', and so on. Is there such an app?

You could use Google Maps/Places for this kind of info about places.
But those kind of places are indoor places and therefore the phone's GPS information (your location) would be inaccurately.
