Default Facebook Messenger Push Notification Issues

When I originally downloaded this a week ago everything worked fine. Messages where getting pushed to my phone and the notifications where appearing in my status bar.

Now this is not happening and I'm having to go back into the app and press refresh to see whether any new messages have been added in a group. I realise that you only need to log onto Messenger app once.

Is this problem linked to me signing out of the standard Facebook app? I thought the apps where separate? I tend to log in and out all the time as I didn't want to appear to be logged in on the chat all day (I think I'll be shown as having a mobile icon next to my name in future so perhaps I shouldnt log out anymore).

I've only moved to the Facebook Messenger app as push notifications where not working on Whatsapp (Whatsapp does not appear to support rooted phones).

Is there something else I'm not thinking of?

Try using FriendCaster instead of Facebook for Android. The official Facebook app sucks.

not to threadjack but i was curious why "facebook upload manager" always has to run as a service with the newer version of FB. I removed the updates and went back to 1.5 and it stopped. Anyone have any idea about that one?

I use FriendCaster for notifications only. FriendCaster does notifications way better than the Facebook app.

As of late, the Facebook app has improved greatly.

OK guys...I'll be coming back to post a tutorial on how to get "push notification" on your Android phones from Facebook. Very easy steps. At first I was hesitant in believing it would work _ now I'm a happy believer.

Thumbs up Facebook push notification fixed!

Here you go guys... This is a tutorial on how to get "Push Notification" on your Android phones. Google won't do it - so someone else did. I'm not the Thread Author of this tutorial _ but I saw it, did it..and now it's working for me _ so I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work for YOU. A big thanks goes to CCW 1134.

So let's set the table here. Facebook Push Notifications are the golden egg that we're all looking for. Well after reading this you can go obsess about something else...finally (I know I will). I have been beyond frustrated with the chaos that has surrounded this subject. I've spent way too many hours reading and reading then reading some more. I am proud to say that I finally cracked the elusive Facebook Push problem.

I switched from Verizon to Sprint last week (work decision) so I went from a Droid Incredible to a EVO 3D. I was hoping that my Push notification would work when I switched since they never had. To my dismay they did not. My daughter went from a BB Curve to the Motorola XPRT and her FB push notifications worked! She always would always say "Dad you're phone's not so Incredible now, is it?" So when I got my EVO 3D and it didn't work I really became obsessed. After comparing settings on both phones and Facebook settings I found the one anomaly. The list of authorized apps within Facebook (Account dropdown>Account Settings>Applications on the right side of the page) on the computer showed "Facebook for BlackBerry Smartphones" on hers but not mine. It's so simple yet outside of the box. The key is BlackBerry permissions! I am willing to bet that everyone who has working notifications on Android came from a BlackBerry. Okay onto the good stuff.

- Find someone with a working BlackBerry. This could be a friend or any store that has activated demo phones. - Using the Facebook app on the BB log into your account and wait for your stuff to start appearing. I did not log into email or anything else, just FB. - After you see your Newsfeed updated with your information simply log out. - Go into your FB settings on your Android phone and check the Notifications box. The refresh interval doesn't matter (it can even be set to Never). - Notifications should start appearing as you get them (Comments, Wall Posts, Pokes, Likes, Messages, etc.)

I did notice a couple of things that I hope get improved in the notification process. Messages and Friend Requests have their own separate icons for notifications just as they always have. Comments, Wall Posts, , Tagging, Pokes and Likes all share the new notification icon that you will start seeing. Because of this if someone pokes you and then you get a comment or whatever, your Poke notification is gone (I'm assuming because the FB App doesn't officially support Poking yet therefore it doesn't know how to handle that notification) and won't know who poked you. Also if you should happen to click on the poke notification doesn't take you anywhere useful, just the list of notifications (for the same reasons listed in the previous sentence). Thisis a small sacrificefornow. If someone tags you in a post (I assume a picturewill bethesameway)you also will still get an email notification to whatever email you use. Just an FYI on that.

For the record I am on Sprint using a nonrooted HTC EVO 3D running 2.3.3 and Facebook is version 1.6.3. I do not believethecarrier, phone model, OS or Facebook version matter but I know there are those out there who want to know this type of stuff.

Can you control the volume of the notification sound? I found that when using polled notifications through the Facebook app, I am unable to control the volume level of the notification sound. All of my other notifications have the volume set to whatever I set the notification volume level. When using FriendCaster, it uses the notification sound level. Whenever I get a notification in the Facebook app, it always plays the notification sound at the maximum level. When I go to bed, I change the notification sound level to 0 so I am not awaken by notifications from things like email, and other apps while my ringer is still on. When I did this and had notifications from Facebook turned on, the sound level of the notification from Facebook played at the maximum volume level. The inability to control the volume level of the notification sound of the Facebook app is another reason I choose to use FriendCaster for notifications.

Good question. I never had any problems with the volume before, most times I just see a notification icon without actually hearing it. Now that you mentioned it _ there should be an option to set it to Facebook Pop notification sound. This option should be in the facebook for android settings.

There is an option to choose which notification sound to use. I choose to use my own notification sound because my notification sound is more descriptive and makes it more obvious that it is from Facebook than any of the ones that came with my phone. The Facebook Pop sound is too quiet for me to hear and a "pop" sound is too generic for me to easily identify it with Facebook.
