Default Cheap SMS over the internet (is Chomp the only alternative to Fishtext?)

Hi all,

I am considering moving from a Nokia to an Android, but one of the things that's holding me back is that Welcome to FishText.com - Send Real Text Messages From Your Mobile Phone For From Just 1p is not available for Androids (officially confirmed by fishtext). On my Nokia I use Fishtext to send cheap sms (around GBP 0.03, around USD 0.047), especially abroad.

The only alternatives I found so far are chompSMS
and SMS via Sipgate v1.1.1 Application for Android | Communication which sends sms through sipgate.co.uk - free phone service over your broadband link - voice over ip provider

However, chomp charges 7p per sms and Sipgate 5.9 p, i.e. about twice more expensive than Fishtext!

In the US most carriers websites let you send text via them for free so you might want to check your carriers site.

Not in Europe. I guess I could always send sms accessing the fishtext website via the browser, but an integrated app would be faster and more convenient

You're welcome, I 've been struggling myself for few months... I really hope that WebSMS will become very similar to ChompSMS (the application, not the price...) :-D

Can WebSMS 3 replace the stock SMS app (Nexus One)?

I haven't found that information anywhere.

Cheers!
