Default 2d Barcodes

I'm hoping the smart people in this forum can help me out. I've created a 2d barcode to place on my business cards, website, etc. through ScanLife, mostly because it was free. Now, my question is, can anyone with a bar scanning application find my information, or do they have to be using ScanLife? I've tried to send this question to ScanLife support to no avail.

There are a few regular members on here that display their BarCodes.
With the free apps in the Market .. I can scan their codes with my G1 directly off the Computer Screen .... very neat Like SWIZZ above avata "HONK IF YOU ARE HORNY"

I did download Barcode Scanner, and it works great, but unfortunately I couldn't get ShopSavvy to work as quickly. I wish there was one app that could do it all well. I don't think Barcode Scanner does the comparative shopping as well as ShopSavvy

This is true, not all scanners are created equal nor will the scan nor find products equally well, hence I have like four different scanners

Same here... well three now actually. I have to have one for shopping, one for EZ code, one for QR code. Kind of frustrating.

Speaking of QR codes, where does everyone in this forum get theirs made? ScanLife creates EZ codes. But I think QR might be more popular.

I have actually seen EZcodes a lot lately. The other cool thing is that you can edit your information with ScanLife once the code is generated.

(I am a developer of Barcode Scanner)

If you generated an EZCode -- no that is proprietary to ScanBuy. If you generated a QR Code -- the format is indeed read by many readers, but, I think the ScanBuy-generated ones are just a pointer/link to info on their servers? I could be wrong, but that is how EZCode works. In that case, no, it still would not work on other readers.

I think it's safe to say that the (open) QR Code and Data Matrix formats are by far the most popular 2D formats.

Here's our project's QR Code generator:
QR Code Generator

ShopSavvy / CompareEverywhere ought to be much faster at scanning since they are only looking for 1D barcodes. They share the same scanning code as Barcode Scanner, from the 'zxing' open source project. Barcode Scanner by default scans for 2D formats and other 1D formats too. SS/CE are much better comparison shopping apps. BS is the plain-vanilla client from the open source project. Its bag of tricks is a bit broader and shallower -- can do stuff like share contacts or import contacts via barcode, search inside a book via book search, etc.

Thumbs up QR codes are worth looking into

Cool thread.

Its true, if you are going to start using the various codes out there, you will need at least 3-4 apps on your phone.

The discussion was started on the actual generation of the code.
QR codes are something to look at - they are not proprietry and have been around for 15 years!

Google can generate them (free) in the chart library, and all you will need to do is get hold of an api key. There are some good examples in the zxing project. The client isnt bad iether!

Ive built a couple of hybrids of the code and plonked it on my site to play with. The 2d barcode business card is cool - works on most devices, but Ive also got a 2d barcode map! all google maps of course! Let me know what you guys think. Lastly I have a plain 2d barcode generator on site. You can navigate through urls.

2d barcode business card free: Create your own free 2d barcode business card : 2dbarco.de the 2d barcode map Create your own free 2d barcode map : 2dbarco.de

All free of course!

Default 2D Barcode app

Hello, I am looking for help finding an Android app that can scan a 12 x 12 format datamatrix barcode. Of the 4 or 5 free Apps I have tried thus far, none of them are able to focus on and scan this small of a bar code.

Thanks for your help.

I've scanned a real small one of those ( < 3/8") that was on the tongue of my shoe with google goggles just to see if it would do it and it did.

The smaller the code though the more camera dependent whatever app you're using is going to be. A focus free would almost definitely not have scanned that one in my shoe.
