Default Titanium Backup Problems - Droid

I am trying to get Titanium Backup to work on my Droid. I have seen other people post and use this app. When I try and use it it always says Failed to get root access.

I am using Bugless Beauty and running oc 1ghrz.

Any suggestions is greatly aprecaited.

And I tried to let it install an updated busy box but that didn't work either.

I finally got it working by reinstalling the busybox that was suggested over here:
app backup with market relinking - Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum

But nothing comes up under the backup/restore tab...

any ideas?

I fixed this by updating busybox inside the app

After you restore all apps....does the market know you have downloaded the apps?

I want to be able to get update notifications....

Phaze3131......thanks for doing the research and posting the solution for others like me! :-)

EDIT: NM...just followed the link!

I'm having the same issue ... I get a toast saying "Number of app data elements: 0" and my "Backup/Restore" tab is blank.

I do believe my busybox and sql installations are correct (since 5 minutes ), so what else could be going on?

PS! Note that I'm on a Galaxy, so running Android v1.5.

Hi KlaymenDK

I'm also using Titanium backup on a Galaxy and it is generally working well but I have had one or 2 issues with it. The developer (Keramidas) has helped out a lot but he doesn't seem to post on this forum.

If you post your queries on
Software that can backup/restore all settings of any apps ! - Android @ MoDaCo

you are more likely to get the help you need.

Cheers

Hi all,

Yes indeed - I just subscribed to androidforums.

Your problems should be gone with the latest version of Titanium Backup: the "Problems?" button has been improved and the automatic busybox download should work on all ROMs now.

Please let me know if you have further problems !

PS: By the way - the "0 apps listed" problem is caused either by a malfunctioning busybox executable (which is solved by the "Problems?" button) or by a problem with the "Superuser Whitelist" app. The second problem should be catched by new verifications that I added at the app startup, and which should inform you of which problem you might have.

Thanks !

Hey, Keramidas....

I'm running AOSP 2.1 on the Hero, and I'm getting the following message when trying to use Titanium Backup:

"Busybox works but the "su" command does not elevate to root: "whoami" reports "whoami: unknown uid 10051" instead of uid 0. I think your "Superuser Whitelist" system app does not work. Please check with your ROM provider."

I can install my old backups and re-do them, but I can't view any of my new apps or settings. I am rooted, as other apps like SetCPU work just fine.

Hi TheBiles,

This warning is really important - it means Titanium Backup could *not* acquire the root priviledges - so you really *need* to solve this problem before doing any backups or restores. Otherwise your new backups will be broken !

I believe that some root apps might work properly, but that problem might happen with any new apps that you install. Try for example to add a terminal app like "ConnectBox" or "Better Terminal Emulator". Then type "su" and then "whoami" inside that app. Just like Titanium Backup, you will not get "uid 0" in these apps. This really means there *is* a problem either with your "su" executable or with your "Superuser Whitelist" system app !

So far, about 10 users have had this "no uid 0" problem, and *all* of them reported to me that they did solve the problem by fixing "su" (and/or the "Superuser whitelist" system app).

Please look if there's any fix that you can apply regarding this. Also check that your "su" and "Superuser whitelist" are really compatible with each other. Then your problem will certainly be solved.

Once the problem is solved, if you have the Donate version you are strongly advised to run the batch verifier.

Thanks - and please let us know how it goes !

Ok, I just checked with Better Terminal Emulator, and my uid is reported as 10051 there too. Is there any process for fixing this uid problem or is it some kind of device-specific issue?

Well I'm not a specialist of ROM rooting in itself, but it's really a ROM-specific issue.

The causes I know are:
A) Incompatibility between "su" executable and "superuser whitelist" sys app
B) "USB debugging" not enabled in Phone settings (inside the "Applications" category).

It would be great to have a general "howto" on how to solve this, but unfortunately I don't. Please let me know what you find !

PS: If you don't get a "superuser permission" pop-up question when you type "su", it's obviously that your superuser whitelist app does not get notified properly that "su" is asking for root priviledges. Trouble is, I really have no idea how that notification works.

Default Whitelist uid = 0 for cdma hero stock roms, Titanium works

I have an answer for those with the hero cdma 1.56 roms.
There is a update.zip file which has the the #superuser.apk white l, and busybox in it ( since the whitelist program from market has cdma hero issues)
Once applied, it changes the uid to 0 as required.
I just flashed it and can confirm that it works.

The update is described here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...ight=mercado79

download update.zip here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...1&d=1259860872

This is for stock cdma hero roms only.

how about this one, after titanium backup runs I get up in the morning and the back light is stuck on" if someone tried to call me" or if I view a menu and set phone down. this happens every week, It does not matter if I change the timeout settings. Only fix is to shut down phone. must be a bug in backup

FYI:
After downloading free titanium backup from the android market i couldnt get it to ask for root access, it just showed me an error every time i opend it saying it couldn't gain root access. It wasnt a problem with a busybox or superuser update. I remembered i hadn't turned on usb debugging until after i downloaded and opened it for the first time so i just uninstalled it, made sure my usb debugging was turned on this time, downloaded it again and when it opened it worked perfectly

You need to install both versions, the pro just tells the other version you've paid.
