Hi,

I am thinking of purchasing an HTC Desire. This will be my first experience with Android, so please, I need advice:

1. Which is the best app to read and edit Word, Excell in Android?
2. How to receive and send emails, using android?

I have 5 email accounts from my own domain and 1 email account Google. In my notebook I centralize all accounts in Outlook 2007. Which app will do it in Android?

1. I really like Docs To Go. Quick Office should work well also.
2. I use the stock Android email app for several accounts and Gmail to keep everything in one place.

To view/edit word, excel and view PDF's, you can use either "QuickOffice Pro" or "Documents To Go" Either should work. I like QuickOffice Pro. As far as suggestions to an email app., I don't know. I'm sure someone will chime in with that info.

Thanks Itsallgood. Crashdamage: thanks, please, the stock Android app allows me to configure individual different signatures in the email, like Outlook 2007?

Sorry one last information: is there need for Microsoft Exchange or the emails are retrieved using a normal Internet connection (as well as via G3)?

I haven't got M$ Exchange yet I receive emails from all and sundry on my phone (2.3.4). Most from Windows machines. So it looks like you don't need M$ Exchange, doesn't it?

You don't need an app to do email on Android. You can just add your 5 email accounts to your built-in email app on your phone. I have two Gmail email accounts and one Hotmail email account on Outlook and on Android.

If you use an IMAP-protocol email service like Gmail, or a MAPI-protocol email service like Hotmail/Live/MSN, then your email will always synchronize between your Outlook PC and your Android phone. So, for example, if you delete an email on one device, it will be deleted on all devices. If you send an email on one device, it will be in the "Sent" mail folder of all devices. If you save an email on one device, it will be in the saved mail folder on all devices. However, if you use POP mail, you can retrieve the mail on any device, but mail won't stay synchronized as described above in this paragraph.

If you want your Outlook contacts and calendar to synchronize with your Android device, I recommend using the free method described at this link. (It's what I use.) But there are also many other 3rd party apps and software that enable you to synchronize contacts, calendar, tasks, & notes between Outlook and Android. You can find the many options listed at Syncdroid.net, some free, and some paid.

Hi RazzMaTazz, that was a great advice, thank you. I will move my email accounts to IMAP4 and use the free method you indicate.
