Default Any apps like Motorola Smart Actions (not tasker)

Hi

I have an app (WiFi unlock), which basically switches off WiFi, and switches on Bluetooth when I leave my house. This is great for me as normally when I leave my house Im in the car, so it connects to my in car Bluetooth.

I have an HTC Sensation XE btw. Ive read about Motorola Razr and their smart actions, which allows you to do various tasks, on certain cations/events etc.

this sounds a great idea, so is there anything like this available in market etc? I know there is an app called Tasker, which Ive got the free trial of, but have to say its so so complicated to use. It maybe powerful, but has obscure meanings/phrases etc, and too complicated for me.

Cheers

Hey MrMister,

I know you don't want to hear this but Tasker does have a high learning curve but it has many functions and is worth learning.

As for other apps like tasker the only other one I know of is Locale I haven't used it myself because I am a Tasker user but I know many people do use it.

+1 on Tasker being worth the effort. I've been using it since before it was released, spreading my learning curve out over 18+ months, so maybe I've lost touch with the effort involved.

As for alternatives, Locale (not free), Llama (free), and Automateit (free) immediately come to mind.

Llama does this! I enjoy it and use it every day, it has a great tutorial and isn't too complicated

I agree I bet tasker will be really good, but it look and feels more like a developer app to me.

looking at Llama now, looks a lot easier than tasker, is it good? does it not use much battery?

Can it do stuff like...
turn on my WiFi when Im at home (using GPS)
Turn on Bluetooth, turn off WiFi when I leave home (using my WiFi SSID)
turn off GPS at certain times
enable different sound profiles at certain times

what profiles/tasks do you use please?
Can it export example tasks, so you can import them form other users?

cheers

well I bought the pro version of Automateit, as only the pro version allows multiple trigger conditions, and multiple actions.

I had a bad experience with it killing my battery life though, still working through this. Also the only option to use for location is the GPS function, whereby Llama used cell towers.

This has the decrement that a) battery life is worse as its using GPS, and b) now I can't switch off GPS as I would before when arriving at work.

Does anyone use Automateit, and give me some tips, sample rules for download etc please?

Have I chose the right "task/action" app out there?

cheers

You don't have to use GPS for location based triggers on AutomateIt. Take a look at the following links which can assist you configure your location trigger so it will not exhaust your battery:

You can also use the Cell Id Trigger described at the following link:

I'm with MrMister. My wife just got the Razr, and this Smart Actions looks awesome. Once again, someone comes out with a product a year or two after I come up with the idea. Same with the Kill-A-Watt device, I told a friend how cool it would be if they made a monitor you could plug inline to track power usage on household appliances, and they came out with that about 2 years later...

Anyway, Smart Actions is awesome, and has a very easy simple interface. You drag/add different triggers and conditions, and still choose whether or not to activate them or not. Example: If the phone is at home(Using your GPS), it is night(Using a time trigger), and you haven't plugged it in, it will go into a low power-use mode, turning off things like GPS, putting the screen on low brightness, etc. No learning curve involved, you add triggers, and you add actions, you drag the little icons to the left of the screen to activate them.

This is so much like my location-aware app I planned. My example was when we only had a single garage door opener for awhile, and my wife would have to call someone every day on her way home from work to go down and open the garage door for her. My idea: when she was within 'X' miles of the house, it would automatically send a text to pre-determined recipients saying that she was almost home, and to please open the garage.

Smart Actions would make this a breeze, and I'd like to see one like it for other Android phones as well, all of these other suggestions either seem far too limited or far too complicated for something that should be really simple. If ANYONE who is familiar with the Motorola app finds a regular Android version. please let me know.
