Default Flower Identification App

I am curious about an app that you can take a picture of flowers and it will identify them. Or a flower database app that you can search for pictures of flowers if you know the general types. Anyone know of an app?

Sounds like an very interesting app if one was to exist.

I know this is a long shot but maybe you could try google goggles, I would be impressed if it could.

Apparently I will have to wait until the Moment gets 2.1. Not listed in the market for 1.5.

Not a florist app - sheesh - horticulture app.

Your best bet might be a web-based taxonomic key - I'm not sure anybody has packaged a key as an app.

Default It's coming...

I just ran into your thread. We've been working on that app for nearly a year now. if you'd like, I can have you join as one of the beta testers. it'll be for iPhones to begin with.
It's a complete experience around nature, the recognition feature is a major one, but not the only one.

Cheers.

My neighbor's son has an app as described on his phone, but I have not had a chance to talk to him yet. It may be an iphone. Hope to get a link, since I would really like to have it. It would be the first app I am willing to pay for! I would appreciate it if the developer above would contact me, either if it is finished, or if they still need beta testers.

Google Goggles. Basically, take a picture and it will search the Google database for anything that looks similar.

Goggles (probably any app) still has a problem recognising organic things imo, theres so many variations in something like a type of flower or animal that our brain can pick out in an instant but computers still have trouble with

Wont it be very difficult to implement. If I take a photo for a flower say Rose. It can be from any angle, any size, color, etc.

How can one find match from Google? I am just curious. Thanks

I've found the flower identification app you are looking for. It has appeared in the Play (for Andoroid) just few days ago. It is called FlowerChecker: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cz.thran.flowerchecker

I think you meant "developed" rather than "found", didn't you?

Please be honest with our members when suggesting your own apps - they appreciate it.

Anyone else notice the irony of the flower identification app thread being read by someone who calls them-self Slug?

Of course for a slug, the app would need to recognize the plant when the picture is taken from the ground.

This app doesn't actually identify flowers, it simply uploads the image to a team of "experts" who then google the image and make a best effort match and return the results at a later date. This whole concept is wide open for abuse...

Actually -- I haven't developed the app (my friend did). But, you are right -- I'm involved my work is the server backend. So, please accept my apology. At first thought that my "conflict of interest" doesn't matter.

You are wrong. No offence, but -- try it by yourself. Just take a picture of some flower and try to google it. It just does not work.

Tell me what is better authority for flower recognition than PhD students of Botany?
Tell me what kind of abuse do you mean? The only abused person I can see is the botanist abused by tons of image recognition requests answering them for free.
