Default Alternatives to Google Music?

Good news: I received an Android tablet for Christmas. Cute little 7" thing, surprisingly solid-feeling, runs more smoothly than my old netbook.

Bad News: It's a cheap Chinese tablet made by a company I've never heard of. It has surprisingly good reviews, but is seemingly stuck with Android 2.2. I've googled ways of updating to no avail (and I'm not quite up to compiling my own update!) which means I can't use the cloud-friendly version of Google Music. Trust me, I've tried, it just crashes.

I went ahead and copied some of my music to the SD card, but it's sort of small until I get around to buying a larger one. (Itty bitty living space.) Is there any other way to stream music (and maybe other media, such as movies) that's stored on my PC to my tablet? I don't care so much about the 'upload to cloud' part, just the file sharing.

Thanks for your time.

Audiogalaxy - Your Music. Your Playlists. Hit Play from Anywhere.

I can run Google Music and ditched it for AudioGalaxy. I love it!

SubSonic. IMHO, there is nothing that touches it.

This looks perfect. Thank you!

Edit to add: Thank -both- of you, actually; I didn't see Darkuni's post before I posted my reply. *goes to check out Subsonic, too*
