Default How to Install apk files on the Phone !

Hi Guys,

First of all I wanted to know by installing a apk file does it mean, that I can install a APP if I have the apk file for it. I dont have a SD card on my phone it is Samsung Galaxy S2 and I want to install apk files for some APPS and Games how do I do that ? Also I wanted to know once the apk files are installed will it automatically craeate a APP icon along side my other APPS and can I start using it ?

I tried using Chrome to Phone but I cannot install Chrome to Phone beacuse it is not available for me to download in my country. It is restricted for me.

Can someone please help me here.

Thanks,

What exactly are you trying to do? Install an app from the Android Market? Just connect your phone to a wifi hotspot.

An apk file is essentially the counterpart of an exe file in Windows, its the installer. To install an apk file, put the apk into your phone via whatever means, like mass storage or bluetooth or cloud, the open the apk file via a file manager (in the SGS2, that's the My Files app). Yes it creates an app icon too.

No this is a APP I am trying to install from some other place not from the Android Market and it just gives a apk file.

So you are saying just put the file anywhere in my phone and open it using a file manager ? So can I do this since I dont have a Memory Card can I connect my phone via USB to my PC and then transfer that apk file from my PC to the phone (But where do I put it? the exact path or location when I dont have a memory card installed) and then open it using a file manager and the APP would be up and running for me ?

Doesn't matter where you put it. You can make a folder and label it apk's if you want to. Just put it there, then run it.

Oh Ok ! Thanks. I am gonna be using "Astro File Manager" downloaded from the Android Market to run that file, is that fine?

Astro? Well that would be fine, although I really don't see the reason to use that when the My Files app that's built into the SGS2 is already fine.

One more thing if a APP is restricted in a particular country and I have the apk file for it and still go ahead and install it and run it will the APP get installed and work on my phone ?

Its the one with the folder icon. Unless your SGS2 has been tampered with by carriers. Samsung international versions always have this.

As for country restrictions, it would depend on the app itself and what it does if it will work.

He is talking about Pandora - if it's restricted in your country it will not work no matter what you do to your phone.

The only thing I can think of (which is illegal) is you need to trick Pandora into thinking your phone is in the US, don't know how but I wouldn't waste my time. (Do not take this piece of text as fact, I won't help and I don't know how to do it and wouldn't waste my time to research to do it).

I would rather try out other stations like Shoutcast/winamp which is awsome and it has loads of radio stations (dance/trance).

Get out of that Pandora bubble and explore!
