Default Is Handcent always so slow?

I got a G-nex about a month ago. It's my first android phone. I installed Handcent a week ago and noticed its pretty laggy.

I notice it most on the text popup screen, where the keyboard is so slow i can barely stand it. Is this typical of the application?

Edit: i forgot to mention that im also using the swiftX keyboard

I use Handcent SMS as well, and frequently text back from the pop-up. I'm using it currently on the Galaxy S II, and my old G2X, and both never had problems. However I use Swype. Maybe an issue with SwiftX?

I had the same lag issues with my Handsent app. (while I had it). I downloaded GoSMS Pro from the market and never looked back. Outstanding app IMO.

No problems here with it and FlexT9 on a LG Optimus M. You might try removing and reinstalling the app.

I have been using Handcent for over a year now. I have noticed at times it is a little slow when trying to add the subject box. But for the most part, it works fine. Would love for it to be snapper in that area, but I can deal with it. (Since I don't always use that feature.)

I tried disabling SwiftKey X... It's still Slow.

Although the stock keyboard has always been slow in landscape. Maybe it's a bug in ICS
