Speech recognition on ICS with foreign languages
Hello all,
I am using a Galaxy Nexus and I love the precision of the speech recognition feature when doing Google voice search and for sending text messages.
This works very well when launched from the little microphone in the Google search bar. But when I launch the voice recognition app (the white microphone icon) things don't work as expected. I am using French as my main language and the voice recognition screen shows suggestions in French. When I speak a phrase, however, the app interprets it as if I was speaking English. I can't get the app to "listen" in French.
The language setting of my phone is French, the Android keyboard languages are French and Dutch and the Google Voice language is set to French.
As far as I can see, the microphone icon in the search bar and the white microphone in the app list are two different applications. The system settings mentioned above seem to affect the search bar microphone, but not the white microphone.
Can somebody shed a light on the difference between these two applications? I didn't find clear information about them and it is a petty that this interesting feature is not documented.
