What exactly does it mean by "username & password?"

For example, it says that Google Maps (on the iphone) shares my username and password with 3rd parties. What username and password is that, exactly? My Google account?

Good god, maybe I was naive in thinking usernames and passwords are universally accepted as private. What is the point of them otherwise?

Still, one of the most likely places for identity theft is at the restaurant when that waitress goes off with your credit card.

I am not sure I would buy what that article said. If you look at the requests that Facebook asks you to approve you will clearly see that they ask for quite a bit of permissions to be approved.

Facebook requires access to contacts and sms messages. It asks to read and write.

I use pdroid to block those pesky permissions.

According to the article text:

Quote:
User asked for directions, supplied an address. Address counted as username data for the purposes of this study. Username, Password" denotes the phone owner's street address.
