Default Boinc for Android

I went searching for an actual android boinc client the other day (not just a remote or controller). I found one that works that I'm running currently on my Sensation (Android Revolution HD). I also started a BoincTeam on Milkyway@home for us android users. I have no association with the creators of this app; I only downloaded it yesterday and have been using it since and thought I'd share since I've found a lot of people looking for this online and few people seem to know of this app.

Search for NativeBOINC for Android (NativeBOINC is one word) in google; you'll find a page with a link to the apk. It has the essential settings such as processor/memory/disk space limitations as well as run only while plugged in. I also recommend getting a battery/cpu temperature monitoring program. Although on my sensation (with a stick on full phone shield) I have not had overheating issues even running at 1.5ghz dual core. I run mine only when plugged in and so I've gotten through a workload already.

The boinc/milkyway@home team I set up is called AndroidPhone I welcome you all to try this program with me and join this group. Joining the team will allow us to keep track of how many android phone users are running boinc and how much processing we've contributed.

I'm between the two of you... apparently I'm of the age that was into BOINC...

It's a program that allows you to participate in several distributed computing projects. Your spare processing power is used to help solve various computationally intensive projects. The original program (I think) was SETI (Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence) where your spare processing power is used to process radio frequency data from various sources to try to find patterns (intelligence?).

Today BOINC is used to solve various things including math problems, medical problems, chemical problems, weather patterns...etc.

You don't get paid, you get some recognition if you help find something, you DO use more electricity and generate more heat since your processor is used more but it shouldn't slow your phone/computer down since it's typically (and by default) set up to only use your spare processing capacity. For phones, you only want to run it when plugged in.

The project is quite large (over 2 millions of participants internationally with about 7 million hosts), I've been involved for over 10 years now. It keeps track of all that you've contributed. It's pretty much free for users and it's nice to know that you're helping solve some of societies problems. Additionally, nerds like me like to brag about how many workloads our computers have done and are doing. It all adds up.

Just downloaded it and currently crunching some Milkyway@Home workunits using an HTC EVO 3D (Dual-Core 1.2Ghz ARM v7 CPU). Aproximate completion time per workunit is almost 14 hours on this phone.
