Default MX Video Player - videos on MicroSD vs. Windows Share

I'm having a problem playing a few videos using MX Video Player. I have two videos (so far) that it mistakenly reports as having a length of 1:48 (1 minute, 48 seconds). One video has an actual length of 42:21 and the other is 41.39. Both of these videos are stored on my MicroSD card on my phone.

When I play these videos using MX Video Player, the file plays for the correct amount of time, with the audio playing normally, but the video plays so slowly that only the first 1:48 of video play during the duration of the audio. It then starts playing the remaining video at (what looks like) normal speed.

However, if access these same files on my Windows share using ES File Explorer, select the file and let MX Video Player play the file (I'm not sure how it's actually doing this), the file plays normally for about 10 minutes, then freezes. When this happens, I'm unable to get the video to resume playing without killing the ES File Explorer and restarting it.

I have performed a binary file comparison of the files on the Windows share and the same files on the MicroSD card, and they are identical.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix either of these problems?

Both problem files are .avi files, but the others that work are also .avi files.

Since my original post, one of the files was "redone" by the person I got it from, and the new one works.

Update - playing the same file from a Windows share: using ES File Explorer and MX Video Player on a Droid X works fine. Retesting on the Bionic (where the problem started), the video stalled at approx the 10:00 mark.

I also tried Moboplayer on both the Bionic and Droid X, and got the same results (ran fine on Droid X, stalled on Bionic).

Question EStrong Mobo Player?

I was using EStrong to access my Videos and play them with Mobo via my LAN connect to shares on my PC. Then it something changed and now it wants to download the files to my tablet. Not sure why....

Strangely, the "redone" file that once worked, is now reported as having a length of 1:48 in both MX Video Player and Moboplayer. The modified date for the file has not changed since it originally worked.

After playing with the settings in both MX Video Player and Moboplayer I discovered that setting the option to use a software video decoder fixes the problem I was having with the locally stored files. Both were defaulting to using a hardware decoder.
