Default Stock Gmail Sometimes Shows Image Attachments, Sometimes Doesn't? WTH?

This is SO annoying. I have several security cameras and they email me 5 still photos whenever there is motion. When I open & view these from a PC client it shows all images instantly, no problem. When I view these same emails from my phone from the stock Gmail app sometimes they display, sometimes they don't. Mostly they don't. This is the same on WiFi or data. It happens on other emails too if someone sends me an image attachment but this is the most consistent sender to be able to compare and there appears to be no rhyme or reason to it. It's VERY frustrating. Anyone have any ideas that don't involve opening a browser and navigating to a Gmail page to see them? There's no reason this dang app shouldn't be showing EVERY image just the same.
